I have a 1997 Cat with the stock silver wheels... But I really like chrome wheels! I am thinking of replacing my wheels with Chrome ones, but I am on the fence because the Silver wheels are so rare, compared to the chrome. How many Cats out there have silver wheels? Less than 3000 my guess.

Do you guys think the Chrome stands out more than the silver wheels on a Purple Cat?

Thanks,

I have the Old style wheels. Like em just fine. I think they were only on "97"s and early "99"s. Probably not near as many of them as the chrome.

You can always keep the silver wheels if you get the chrome ones, I think they make the car look much 'er.

My 99 purple has chrome wheels on it and they do really stand out on the car. IMO
Good Luck on deciding.

I have a Yellow '99 and it has silver wheels. Quite frankly, I think the silver look great on the Yellow and they are much easier to clean. You only have to wipe them off instead of polishing and they don't show the dust. If I changed to chrome, it would probably be a custom wheel, not the Prowler wheel

My yellow has the silver wheels also. I intend to leave them just the way they are.

20 yellow `99's came from the factory with chrome wheels.

The chrome started on the Black `99, fall of `98

I had silver but had them chromed. As far as cleaning either they are clean or they are not.

The chrome looks so cool as the car goes down the road.
Look at any car with chrome wheels, Prowler, 300 M, LHS even the mini van then look at some vehicle without, WHAT STANDS OUT MORE ON THE ROAD?

My 99 has the Silver. I was thinking of switching to the chrome until I heard of all the problems the Chrome were having with the inside wheel portion flaking. At least that what stop me initially. I do like the way the silver looks and they are more rare. I'm staying with the silevr right now. I do personally feel the silver show better on the Purple Cat than do the Chrome. However the show chrome wheels on the Wildcat are awesome and its a different color chrome than the stock wheel. If I do switch to chrome it will be the show chrome and on a second set of wheels. I am keeping the silver the way they are. FYI, The chrome on E-Bay have the flaking problem according to the description.

I think the silver shows up better on darker color like purple. I heard about the flaking problem on the inside of the chrome wheel... If I got my silver wheels chromed it would be a lot better quality then the OEM. But I should keep the silver wheels because they are so rare.
QUESTION:
What if a silver rim breaks or cracks... will we have to replace all 4 rims? Like the clear coat control arms... there are no more in circulation. Is this true with the silver wheels?

I would think the silver would still be available. They are made by American Racing and unless they scrap the mold when they end the cat, they could recast them and then have them painted instead of chromed. Even if you hade to get a chromed wheel it could be striped and then painted to match. I think they are powder coated silver.

The problem with the front a arms is they changed vendors and the process to make them.

No question. KEEP your stock silver wheel. They are already very rare and look extremely good on the purple!!

As some of you may remember, two of my wheels were smashed by the dealer. The two replacement silver wheels are not the same quality as my originals. The shape is slightly different and the paint is not of the same quality.

I think they both look great. I would keep the original silvers and buy chrome if possible.

Well, the silver does look good in it's own way. That is until your near a Prowler w/chromes. Makes the silver look just ordinary. Just for everyone's info. There have been several sets of chrome wheels for sale on ebay. Every set has had flaking and or pitting. It apears these wheels that are being sold are for the most part wheels that have been replaced under warrenty. Some how they've made their way to the used part market. Also a dealers cost on a new set, out the door w/tax is aprox $2300. Do you really want to spend half that for a set that has the chrome peeling off like tin foil ??

Just my 2 cents. Everyone wants everything chrome that they can find and then there is a debate about which rims look better?? I don't think there is any comparison. I wouldn't get rid on the originals but the chrome looks much better, in my opinion. I am not trying to belittle the painted rims and I don't know if I would spring for $3000 for rims, but the look is much better. Just my 2 cents.

Spoons, I have the silver rims also and I was the only one at the last 3 car shows with them. The other cars looked so good to me and they even had another purple car with the chrome wheels. It looked great. So I started to order mine then I realized why I sold my viper and bought the cat.I wanted to be different and have something not to many others had.I like my silver wheels thier different and original. Just a thought I wanted to share with you.

FYI

In 1998 it cost me $1,255 for dismount shipping, chroming, remount & balance for my silver wheels to the show chrome they are today. This included the hubcaps on my trailer but not the center caps on the car.
