My husband and I were with some DC execs this evening. You guess it... the main talk was the shut down of the Prowler and the new vehicles DC is introducing this coming year. One of which will be fuel cell vehicles. (4) of them by 2005. 1. The final decision was finalized from Daimler corporate and finalize by the last controller's meeting held earlier this month. I was a unanimous vote to end the Prowler. The current inventory level are much to high to continue production. Even with the current production cut back, inventory depletion would carry to 2003. 2. The reason there is a hold of ordering candy red from the dealer system, is that a full audit of inventory including parts and man power must be assessed before the final production count is finalized. From what I have heard is that there may be just a few of the Candy red to go around and a lot of them would be slated for the top, and I mean top dealers in the country. Many DC area reps are finding that orders for the final color are coming in faster than anticipated. If you can get a VON (Vehicle Order Number) from your dealer, YOU WILL BE LUCKY GREAT. It's gold. 3. You may not see the Prowler at the Auto Show...may not I said. it takes 300,000.00 to show 1 vehicle. They may use the space for another. I have seen them change their minds quite a few times within the last 3 months. Well look how fast they chopped the prowler. Last summer it would carry to the end of the year, now just at the start of 2002. Now for some good news, many and I mean many at DC and the automotive media world feel that the Prowler will become a classic and it's value will substantially increase of the next few years. Sassy

I got to tell you, I saw a candy red at Crazy Horse this summer, I know it wasnt the DC candy red. But, and I know Im going to get grief on this, but these cars just dont look good in that color,, that color is made for bigger car IMO The color cannot be appreciated on it. Sooooooooooooooooo,,,,, It's my opinion the Candy Red will not be the highlight of the Prowler colors. Anyway, thats my opinion, Candy Apple Red is for a older, aged hot rod,, not a new computer controled car. ------------------ This message has been edited by jd2ksilver on 12-16-2001 at 01:13 AM |

Sassy. DC allocating orders to "top dealers"... Those are the same dealers that charged over MSRP. Why not let the small dealers order the cars (at least some of these are willing to sell them at invoice). ------------------ |

John, I know what you mean. I attend tons of car shows yearly and have a deep deep passion for all cars. It keeps my purse empty all the time. You are right. This color is very very conservative in general. That is why I got the yellow. Now, if DC had an electric green or blue or even a shocking fire red, that would be better. Thanks JD, always nice to hear your thoughts |

Laddie I have never said this before, but I guess this is the time. My husband's father's brother owned the largest Chrysler dealership in Toledo years ago, retired and sold it to. DC has this, "which I think is crazy" rule that the more you sell, the more PRIORITY YOU HAVE. When the PT's first came out, that was the killing game for that car. The bigger dealers got the grunt of the load. Next week I am going to check to see if I can find out who's getting what in the reds. |

John, Maybe the grief of you tossing the goodies out the oil pan affected your judgement of all of CRAZY HORSE I for one LOVED the candy apple red car ED brought. It was a real candy apple red. JMO ------------------ |

Laddie - I agree that the dealers in mainstream, mid-size towns and cities should get the Candy Red Prowlers to retail. They sold them to get them on the road for viewing and did not gouge the buying public. Having said that, I'll agree with S/M that the large volume dealers will once again get the cake and ice cream. Their 'numbers' is what it is all about to corporate goals. I don't think anyone is going to 'soon' be able to find out which dealers are going to get what allotment of new reds - pipe dream, IMO. S/M - Husband's father's brother - would that be his uncle? I see you attend tons of car shows,,,,,,,did I miss seeing you at Woodward in August, ninety minutes up the road? ------------------ |

Sassy - Since you were at Woodward, I'll aplogize for not meeting you,,,,thought I talked to nearly all of the 58 Prowler owners there, my fault. I spent three days in Lamberville also, but you didn't answer my three previous email invitations for lunch, so I thought you weren't going to WDC. Video soon? Great! Can't wait to see it. Mike Gatlin's WDC video was awesome, so if you can top it you'll be in line for a Oscar award!!! |

quote: Hi Larry You, among others must have been able to tell the great time I had there. I was smiles all day, all night. The motor let loose on the last day of the event, doing something few are willing to do. Pushing the car to it's limits, something I have no regrets for doing so. And, I would do it again, taking with me the knowledge I have on my past experiences. Marc C and I get jabbed at this often, and guess what?, we will be running our cars at the drags up in Colorado, come take your car and join us???? As for the color, I love it. But it belongs on a lead sled, where it originated. Anywhere else seems out of place to me. And, hey Sassy, nice to see you again too. Lets stir the pot a little. ------------------ |

JD2Silver...Opinions, aren't they wonderful? everyone's got one.. I'm stricken by the diverse opinions of what the Prowler image is to different Prowler drivers. I hear you saying you don't like the Deep Candy Red because the car is new age technology intense and not an old fashion hot rod. It's my opinion that classic reds and other colors more correctly represent the Prowler's image of a retro hot rod much more so that the new age Z-3 & Boxster silver?? Opinions, aren't they wonderful? Everyone's got one. XOXO |

Chromer You gonna join us at the track b4 the Rocky Mountain High event? JD and I will be doing our part to keep our reputation up for pushing our cars to limit and then begging rides from some wonderfully generous Prowler owners. My opinion on colors?! Pause....Oh there's 2cents on the floor, Prowlers look good in any color. Of course they look best in PURPLE! ------------------ This message has been edited by Marc-Colo-99 on 12-16-2001 at 01:55 PM |

Hey JD, I regret to say I had to weasel out on my bumper removal. We are working full time on Mrs. Claus (alias Mrs. Grinch) for Prowler goodies under the tree. It's really tough (and we are not kidding) around here getting any Prowler goodies. Even Jack and his Charismatic Cannine personality is unable to influence Mrs. Grinch (Chromer). Wish us luck!! |

Hey Super Marc, You bet! We will be there at Bandimere Speedway to carelessly abuse our car just like you! Remember, you and I have shared blood (we Fraged our transmisison's the same Month!) You are going to have to spot us at least .6 seconds due to all the cool mods you have done to your car and the fact that Jack has put on little weight (he's up to 7 pounds!) Bad to the Bone! ------------------ |

I think the candy red would have made a fabulous regular production color - better than gold! JD - if you are going to give your opinions on the color of cars - you should keep them consistent. In the thread link below you said that the candy red and John Ross's cars were the hottest colors at Woodward! ------------------ |
