It has been so long since I have driven my kat, I have almost forgot what it is like. I have been wanting to post this for awhile. For those that don't know, I have the 2K1 Mulholland. After I took off my bumpers and took the car for a ride, the handling felt - well - kind of jittery. I started wondering why and then I weighed my bumpers. I lost 25 pounds off the front end with the removal. I am wondering also if there is an aerodynamic issue. Now, I have heard about the top link brace and I am going to try that to see if it helps sure up the handling. Has anyone else discovered this? Has anyone found a good way to get this weight back and if so, did it help at all? ------------------ |

Cliff,,, IMO,, your imagining this,, Or you will get used to it quickly and learn to drive accordinly. The car is not the greatest handling car to begin with. I do have braces though, but not because the bumpers were off. The cars walks around corners,, hit a bump at speed and on a corner and hang on. Anyway, I'm sure theres going to many post for leaving these god ugly bumpers on the car. Not from me though, take em off, throw em away. ------------------ |

Never really noticed any change at low speed but at high speed with the bumpers off the car feels much more stable. I think if you look at the angle of the bumpers they work like a wing and cause lift on the front of the car? Could be me but I have run my car up to 135 at that point I had had enough but I have also read many posts that people say the car is unstable as low as 100. Welcome to the group of bumperless cars ( it looks way better ). |

Cliff, I removed my front bumpers a couple of years ago and have not experienced any different handeling problems. I have noticed however,--- right from the start that the front end does seem to get a little "light" once you get up around 130MPH, but if you don't mind that kind of speed, try removing the front fenders. They act like air foils and cause a significant "lift" that you really don't need -- at least at speed's over 100 mph, not to mention the extra "drag" that they impose. This isn't recomended for everyday driving though, unless you own a paint shop and don't mind repainting the rock chips. You might try replacing the standary small battery with a full sized deep cycle marine battery which weighs several pounds more that the origional. You do need a bit extra weight up front if your going to push the envelope. I havn't tried the top link brace, but that will be next on my winter projects. ------------------ |

JD - I have heard your complaints about the handling but I never experienced it until I took off the bumpers - for me the car always handled really well - except for a couple times when I did a quick U-turn and the front wheels broke loose - it was a controlled environment and there was no damage. I have always considered the difference in our handling to be because of the different suspensions we have. The difference for me could also be that I didn't have the bumper covers on yet and there was turbulence going inside the engine compartment - I don't know - when I get the car back, I will see if there is a difference. All of this has been observed at lower speeds - 50-70 mph. Starflame - I should get my car back on Friday and I will get to take pictures then ------------------ |

Contrary to JDWest - I enjoy the 'looks' of the cat with or without the bumpers. Maybe next spring, I will remove mine. My one observation and negative remark on bumper removal is: standing in front of the cats 25 feet away, the bumper-less cats look soooo much fatter in the front appearance, as opposed to the bumper cats which look more narrow in front and have the streamlined affect. Its an individual thing I guess - each to their own opinion. ------------------ |

I removed my bumpers two years ago. I did not see any difference in handling at high speed, but that may be because I took the bumpers off soon after I got the car before I had driven it much. ------------------ |

Cliff, I'm sure you will figure it out. IMO though, if your getting braces, get the bottoms too. Think about it, makes sense. Larry, there is a guy up here making a "quick release brackets" for the front bumpers, for shows etc. Might be right up you "Alley" (bumpers, sheeze,,). Actually, I would hope you all keep yours on,,

We took the bumpers off after a few months and we could not tell any difference in handling. Adding the top front brace between the upper bumper mounts made the handling a lot better. We love the clean, classic, street rod look. ------------------ |
,, makes mine more unique.
