What do you think? Would you like to do it? Across how many states? Start where? Finish where? Do you think it can be done? ------------------ |

I don't think I'd do the whole run, but I'd ride along from PA to the Mississippi River. ------------------ |

Very interesting idea. Some of my thoughts: * route should depend on total participation * I would think a lot of people would join in progress so instead of true "Cannonball" run where everyone picks their own route, I would suggest a designated route with daily destination so others can join along the way. If some want to take two lane roads, the interstate, a side trip, etc - at least everyone will know where they should up at end of day. * we should think about a reward/prize of some kind for people complete the most miles/days of event * let's see what kind of response this topic gets ------------------ |

Count the Yeller Cat in for an Atlanta to Key West run!!! Maybe you can plan it in stages... LA to Dallas... Dallas to Atlanta... Chicago to Atlanta... New York to Atlanta... then make the final run Atlanta to Key West!!! Keep me posted and I will design a special SHIMMERS dash plaque to commemorate the event. Sincerely, Jay ------------------ |

Great Idea. I would not have any problem about going all the way across and then back but I think that a lot a people would come and go as the miles rolled by. I did a couple of cross country trips with clubs before and there have always been staging points along the way for people to join and leave at. This also works well because if somebody wants to only go some of the way there is always somebody else out there that wants to turn back at the same point. This way everybody can drive in groups both ways if they want. I don't have a lot of time to work on this if it came together (even though I would love to) but I would be willing to give some advice and tips on setting it up. I hope it does come to be. You can count me IN!!!!!! |

Why reinvent the wheel? The Hot Rod Power Tour has already done all of the work for you. Pay your $50.00 entry, collect all your goodies and have a great time! They give you the itinerary, a list of hotels, schedules and even have entertainment at each day end location. It doesn't get any easier than that. |

This is a great idea - we can do what the Durango club did - start in the North West, and work Eastward with a plaque and end up at CAAP (they ended up at the factory where Durangos are built) and give the plaque to the workers! Everyone picks a leg and hands the plaque off to the next driver and the plaque works it way across America! ------------------ |

US 50 starts just outside Washington DC ( I think just across the Potomac River ) and goes to Sacremento, Cal. In other words it is about 100 miles short of going coast to coast. It is close to being in the middle of the country (north/south) the entire way. It is a mere coincidence that it goes right thru Cincinnati and would be extremely convenient for me. I would NOT be interested in a long trip on an expressway. I would love to travel route 50 from end to end. It is pretty scenic in spots. What do you all think of that route? |

Sign me up! Hey if this gets serious and you need volunteers to help coordinate and plan, let me know. The US-50 route sounds kinda neat but I'd like to see some of old 66 thrown in there. Gotta pay homage to the mother road ya know. -Tom ------------------ |

There you go Ed, screwing things up to suit yourself. Now I have to travel 5 hours south to get aboard if it starts in Va. ------------------ |

Al, quit being selfish. It is 5 minutes for me. lol Lavka, I have no problem with Rt. 66 but we did that last year during the Grand Canyon meet. I am not against going back to it, though. It is neat. Sandy and I hit a little bit of it in Illinois this year due to poor navigation skills. (And for once it wasn't HER poor navigation.) Ask me about Germany, sometime. |

Just joking. Rt50 sounds logical-us northerers could cat-a van from NE to Va and head west from there. The only problem I see is the hookup with the others in the middle states. Stuff happens and a day delay for a repair or something could screw up meeting plans. ------------------ |

Great idea to start from the east, also. I used to live in that area of Va and RT 50 (once outside of D.C.) is a nice ride. Count me in but if we are going forth we need to come up with some dates to give us working stiffs a chance to plan for vacations, etc ------------------ |

How about a route that starts in the NW AND SW converges somewhere in the midwest like Dallas or St Louis and then branches off to either the NE or SE, heading for Boston or Fla. Or, start on the east side and do the opposite. This way were could pick up more people and cars for at least part of the chosen route. For example, I could pick it up in the midwest and go either to Boston or Fla. Some one in Ohio could meet the group there and head on whereas I might stop in Ohio and head back to Kansas City. Just another idea, for what it is worth. ------------------ |

I like the ideal and yes a planning team needs to get a time and lay out a route. One years notice would be great for home planning and vacation time as well as other stuff. Options could be put on the board to vote on. Think about it. To have different pick up points could be option. Anything could be possible. This could be a great trip. |
