Was just looking through the scrapbook and came across the picture of the proto type car, I thought it looked familiar I have the exact die cast model can anyone tell me if this car is owned by anyone. I would like to find out some things about the car, my model has the hood flipping open from the windshield to the front and I wonder if the real one did too any info from any of you Prowler authorities would be greatly appreciated thks PK |

Keith, One of the proto type cars is buried in a time capusle in downtown Tulsa, Oklahoma. It will dug up in 50 years I believe. the other cars I have no clue, I bet one is probably in the wpc museum. ------------------ |

and on the hood the one that got buried here had the same hood hinge as the ones that are on the road today. There were no Back moldings on the rear fenders for rock chips. That is all I remember being different. ------------------ |

PK, I have several photo's of the prototype, yes the hood opened from the front & it had a small deck lid. It was shorter and narrower than production. what questions do you have? CJ, should be an expert on the prototype.

The time capsule sound different who did that would be nice to know that answeer,(2) who was the fellow that put the picture in the scrap book then, (3)does anyone else have a die cast model of it like I have stupid me threw the box away and can't remember what make it is and where I got it, and last one the model has the same interior colour as the picture and bumpers, head lites and also has no rear fender guards and it has those rims with the double bumps in between each of the spokes so thats where the hood question came from. CJ was your husband involed with this car from the start?? THKS Keith |

The concept car that made the show circuit was narrower than the production cars, and had a number of other distinct differences. For example, the headlights and the bumpers were different among other things. People confuse the concept car with the production cars including the early development pieces. The car buried in Tulsa is one of the production prototypes and should be just like the 1997 production cars, with very minor differences. PK - He was involved with the car early on in the course of business. ------------------ |

John, I have a dealer that is highly regarded with Chrysler and the state of Oklahoma. (he is the motor vehilce commissioner appointed by the gov) They dug up a time capsule the same time that the prowler preproduction was here, so we stole to keep for 50 years in a air tight capsule under ground, in the same place that the previous capusule was buried. Did you know that they actually built a building over top of the previous capsule. (so I don't want to hear anymore of us OKIES being stupid) we built a building over so noone would take it. LOL! ------------------ |

Thanks Lance... I hope I'm still around in another 47 years to hear about the opening of that capsule. Might even drive the Prowler there if I'm still able (the cat will be, assuming we still have gasoline then...) Should we post in the Events section for this, or should we wait a bit? ------------------ |

It is a great picture but one question I asked nobody has answered yet. Does anyone else here that collects prowler diecast models have one of these cars, because I do and have never been able to find another one like it, it was the only one the store got and couldn't get anymore. PK |

Keith - look on the bottom of the diecast and read who made it. Also while you are at it - read the copyright statement and the year. Is it by any chance an ERTL copyrighted by "Chrystler" - I have one that is an ERTL that has the hood that flips up like that. ------------------ |

Keith - can you take some pictures of it and post them? I don't think my has polished headers but I would have to check. If it is the one with "Chrystler" on the bottom then it was only on the shelf for a couple of weeks before it was pulled because of the typo. ------------------ |

PK, I have 2 of the proto type diecast. both misprint cars. Not sure how many they made of it. I was told, once they found out about the mistake Chrysler and Ertl both wanted the cars back. They also have diecast that are not misprints of the proto type. Got one of those too. I have seen them on ebay and at swap meets. The misprint cars or in box with flag background. They are all at lease 5 years old. Only current production is all I've seen in the stores. My remote also has the rims with the knubs on the rim between the spokes. Happy hunting ------------------ |
