Howdy folks........ ...has anyone heard of a Prowler with that Chromeillusion / Chameleon paint? I was wondering if there was a Prowler out there with that paint scheme. Even better, pictures would be great! :-) Considering changing colors of the Silver 2000 Prowler............... Regards, -Ben ------------------ |

Typically there are eight basic colors available, withe a possible 36 color variations created by mixing different levels of the original eight as follows: Red/Gold (shifts from red through orange and yellow into green) Silver/Green (shifts from silver through the full range of greens into purplish blue) Gold/Silver (shifts from gold to bluish silver) Green/Purple (shifts from green through blue and red into orange) Cyan/Purple (shifts from cyan through purple into reddish orange) Blue/Red (shifts from blue through purple into warm red) Purple/Orange (shifts from purple through red into orange) Magenta/Gold (shifts from magenta through red, orange, and gold into yellow) Paint suppliers available are: House of Kolor - Kameleon Kolor, and Kameleon flake (base color stays same, but flakes shift color) PPG - Harlequin and Prizmatique (more holgraphic in nature, like your credit card) DuPont - Chromallusion (more pearl like saturation) ------------------ |

Gary C, I have seen a color that shifts only from blue to purple. Any Idea who make this? It would make awesome flames on a Purple Cat. ------------------ |

800.00 a quart or is it a pint? mega expensive. This is what you call an engineered paint. Each particle that makes up the color has several sides. Each side of the paint particle has a color, one side of the particle is weighted and all the particle fall in only one way, weighted side down, thus giving this super color effect at different angles. You see the particle color from the angle of which you are at. Sasy

Rich - I believe John Ross said $800 a pint. And I thought beef jerky was high priced! |

If anyone is thinking of doing this, the best base color to start with is black. Sasy ------------------ |

Now here is a question.. It takes about a pint to do the base coat but what about the all the other coats? The article in Mopar Now said that there should be 5-6 coats done before the clear coat. The article also mentioned that if you use a dark blue base coat instead of a black it tends to bring out some of the blues and reds better. Any Ideas on that? How many pints for a Dakota CC not including the bed? ------------------ |

OK, Heres the scoop. We dismantled car and painted it with a black base. 3 coats House of Kolors ( camilion). 3 coats clear. It took just over 12 pints of paint @ $250.00 per pint (painters cost). The reason for the extra paint was he painted The hard top (TGF). And he had to cover some of the body color with flames. The turn signals ( bumper removal) are custom done by same painter. The rear roll pan was customized by same painter. (Real Rod roll pan). The cost for first time around was just under ten grand. The second time he did the hood scoop. Thanks to Jim Mashaud, body and paint expert. Thanks, ------------------ |

There are different ways of doing the work and different painters get like results with the different ways they apply a product. Yes a black base may be the way to start. Ask any painter what a coat of paint is, one may say one full lap of the car, one may refer to the amount of paint applied. When you paint a car you a looking at what you are doing not counting coats as a rule. This paint is easy to repair. It is hard to mess up. Your results for a good finish begin in your prep work. Blocking and sanding for example, as the better the finish looks the more you may see flaws in your body. We use all PPG products for the clears and most base colors and have found we get very good results. Your color may vary , there are different ways to get different results. |

Dupont Chromalusion on my car @ Painters cost $270 pint It does go a long way, but as John stated, expect big $$$$ paint job if you do the whole car. ------------------ |

John, Jim did you a great job for that price That is the same way that I do it 3 coats base 3 to 4 coats of clear depending on how much I plan on wet sanding. We spent around 220 hours when we tore mine apart to paint it. But worth every minute ------------------ |
