I just saw this on http://www.chevrolet.com/ssr/index.htm. Is the SSR Chevy's version of the Howler? John |

and a good thing no one has come close. It would really bother me to see a bunch of Prowler clones out there like there are Harley's. ------------------ |

They were suppose to be 2002 I seen it at the Chicago auto show last year. I LIKE IT No it isn't a Prowler look a like. It reminds me of a early 50's hot rod truck. Has a V8 and power top. If I could have another toy car I would think about this cheby |

I saw this last year and wanted one immediately. I think it would be a nice complement to the prowler. My old pickup is a 94 Nissan and this would replace it. I hope they keep the V8 and the retractable hardtop in the production version! ------------------ |

I really am not a big fan of trucks, or Chevrolets, but if they stay true to the concept vehicle, I would purchase one. ------------------ |

I have had 6 Chevy vehicles, brand new, and 3 Chrysler's ( all Prowler's) brand new. The two Astro Vans had very small minor warranty problems, the rest were fine, all 3 Prowler's have had problems, one of which is still an on going nightmare almost 6 months later! Which do you think I feel is more reliable! ------------------ |

I agree with Wildcat. I saw one here a few months back here at the Dallas auto show. Looks a lot better in person than in pics. They say now mid year entry 2002. I will have one and I know DavidN will also. He's been trying to order one, but no way. Muchless the first ones will be stupid in price. Supposed to be in the low 30K range. Only blue to start! ------------------ |

Todd, you are comparing a vehicle that is a high production vehicle and one that is hand-built. It is unfortunate that you ended up with one that has a problem. Keep in mind, however, that there are a lot of people out there who will relate horror stories about "lemons" they have purchased. I guarantee you they aren't all Chrysler products. I have had my cat for two years and have not had any of the problems with it that some of you talk about. In fact, since about 1978, I have had nothing but AMC/Chrysler/ DaimlerChrysler products and have had no problems with them. If you are that unhappy with your cats (including the quality), you have the choice of selling them and buying something else! ------------------ |

True enough... and I have seriously considered selling them because of their problems. I really disagree with low volume being the excuse for shoddy quality. While anyone can and will have a lemon, I personally feel there are way to many Prowler's out there with "mistakes" then warranted. There are many other lower volume cars that have far less problems then ours. ------------------ |

I'm not suggesting low volume as an excuse for quality issues. I'm just saying that human error is likely to be higher than robotic errors. For all the Prowlers that may have mistakes, it's likely that there are more that don't have any. Show me a production or hand-built car that is absolutely perfect. I don't think such an animal exists, or ever will, as at some point, humans become involved in the process. Anyway, I'm sorry you've had problems and you have to decide your own course of action, as all of us would. ------------------ |

sounds to me like a Prowler wanna-be? Only one color in first year production and no options? Hmmmmmm sounds familar. Took chevy 5 years & Ford 4 years to come up with something. I guess they should be rightfully tagged as "Copy CATS"

Follow this link and go to the bottom of the page to check out a quicktime movie of the SSR in action, with power top. You may have to press the play button inside the movie frame to start it. Looks pretty cool. Check out the side view mirrors mounted on top of the windshield! http://www.apple.com/quicktime/products/qt/overview/media_skins.html ------------------ This message has been edited by Andy R on 06-07-2001 at 04:20 PM |

I think these SSR's are neat 50's truck not a prowler clone I've put in my order for one hope to get it. I own a 2001 GMC 4x4 extended cab loaded all ready had the auto tranny completely rebuilt at only 4875 klms and I don't go 4 wheeling so even machine built cars or trucks have their problems like they said their made by man so _hit happens. My wife's PT Cruiser is going strong so far no problems and 8500 plus klms she just loves it to |
