I see numerous post with references to ceramic brakes. Why is this mod so popular? What advantage do they have over the factory brakes? |

They leave alot less brake dust on your wheels, car and in the air filter. ------------------ |

Many are of the opinion (by feel only) the car stops better. No actual tests to prove this. ------------------ |

The stock pads leave a large amount of BLACK dust all over the wheels, requiring cleaning even after a short drive. The ceramic pads are light gray in color and do not throw nearly the dust that the stock pads do. Braking was no difference to me, but the dust deal was. So for me it was a cleaning issue that was solved with the new ceramic pads. Alex ------------------ |

I read a previous post saying that the ceramic pads from Pep Boys doesn't include the shims used to keep the brakes from squealing. If anyone has the pads from Pep Boys and did not use the shims, are you having a problem with brake squeal? Thanks |

I got my pads at Pep Boys - don't know if they had the shims or not - had the Dealer install them since I don't have a jack (and it gives him a chance to drive it now and then). My breaks are VERY quiet. They have the code QS which stands for Quiet Stop - I don't know why anyone would say they squeal. ------------------ |

I have never done this before..... Went down to the "boys" bought the pads ($64.??) and had my friend install them. Total job took about 25 minutes, including my time to clean up the wheels, and they work great. I have noticed no squeaks or any other noise except Gary moaning about his engine and not being able to drive his Prowler. I drove the car 50 miles and could tell no difference in the stopping power but when I got home the wheels were clean. I didn't believe the situation so I ran my fingers around the inside of the wheels and the only thing I could feel were the scratches that DC put on the wheels when they moved the wheel weights around. No dust! My car had only 300 miles on it at the time and it was about two months old. All and all a good decision and a reasonable job to do. Like I said, I've never done this before....but I would certainly do it again. ------------------ |
