This is the only way I can get the pic to work. Please click on the link below. Let me know what ya think. Please respond on the "Another chrome grill trick" thread, I don't want to take any credit for the idea. Just want to show how mine turned out and let people know how GRRRREAT an idea it is. A side benefit is that due to the thickness of the trim, it is seen easier from the front than a plated grill. http://www.prowleronline.com/scrapbook/newscrapview.php?id=81 ------------------ This message has been edited by JUST JP on 05-09-2001 at 02:14 AM |

Alex, It is door edge guard. It is small U-shaped with glue already inside the U. Just cut it to length and press it on. Larry S. stole the idea from someone and now a bunch of us have done it. Get to bed, you are too young to be up so late. lol. |

JP Looks goooood.... Make sure you re-press them after the first 24 hours, I did not do mine at the end curled up and out. I have my chrome grille coming in this weekend. I have 2 of them coming so I may sell one. Anyone wanted it let me know. Sasy ------------------ |

Ed - Yes, I stole the idea from Mr.PTCruiser, Mark Radeff. We are now registering a TRADEMARK for this process and will waiver the $10 fee to all who have used the idea, except you. Please send a $10 money order made out to: BIG FOOT PRODUCTIONS, INC. Thanks Ed, and

A relative at DC knows a vendor and they normally don't do these but did it anyway. They do plastic finishing treatments. Sassy ------------------ |

I went to Pep Boys to purchase this trim today and noticed how thick it is. They did not have the size I wanted but the thickness got me to thinking. It looked to me that this would significanly reduce air flow thru the grille. Has anyone that has done this noticed a problem? Also when I go to Woodward I will be using the bra which also cuts down on air flow. I am afraid that the combination of the two might cause me problems as well. Any feedback would be helpful in assisting me to make up my mind. I cannot afford a chrome grille at this time. ------------------ |

Sassy ... Another contradiction ... thought you said these weren't plated in a traditional electroplate sense (as like the company in Florida) but rather a vaccum process followed by some clearcoat deal?!? And this is a vendor at DC ?!? Hmmmmm and whay have they not offered it as standard on the Kats then? This is he FIRST you have said this person has anything to do with DC .... very interesting .... and you have TWO of em coming, I see ... well, we ALL will wait anxiously for updates and pictures to be posted ... maybe you will actually take a shot or two of the fininshed car with YOU in the photo as well ... now THAT would be a novel switch. ------------------ |

Beware, There will not be an airflow problem, the chrome strips are just not that thick. I do recommend getting the thickest strips available, that is the 3/8 inch. I had a problem with the lower ones popping out on the side I ended on. I suggest using a hair dryer on each strip for a minute to make it very pliable and do hold the ends in firmly for 10 seconds or so. I did this on my silver car and it realy looks well. Tom |

I have been thinking of doing the chrome door edge guard thing also but i have a question. At the end of each vane on the grill the door edge guard has to be cut off to the matching length. What do you do about the raw edge that will show on either side of the grill vane?? |

BKG, You trim it with a razor blade at about a 35 degree angle. I ended up cutting mine at the same level of that of the grill edges. I would post a pic but I'm without a digi cam right now. Later... ------------------ |

As I told Danny from Texas at Deadwood, I have now applied for the patent rights to this process, and will be collecting $4.95 from each of you , for its use. Mail me five bucks, and I'll return the nickel when I meet you. Curt Stall - you are excluded from the $4.95 charge, being the first to post a picture of this money saving process. Thank you, thank you very much! |

Here's the easy way to do this job: With the grill on the car, cut rough lengths of molding and press onto the vanes. You don't have to be neat here-leave the molding a little bit long. (BTW, leaving the grill on the car makes it easier to work with cuz it doesn't move around). Next take the grill off the car and use sharp dikes (wire cutters) to snip the ends of the molding flush with the edge of each vane. This makes for a very clean finish at the edge. Oh yeah, as a gesture of stewardship, everyone who saved money with this chrome grill method should donate the money they saved to the Larry S. Salzman Relief Fund. (The S stands for Soon-to-be-a-transient-if-he-doesn't-get-to-work). |

Marc - That be I sitting on the Main St. corner, unshaven with the long, messy oil change hairdo. That was one of Larry Lord's old hats I used for donations from the Deadwood tourists. In four hours of time, I collected $47.35 in donations from people who felt sorry for me. Pretty close to the gas money I needed to get home from Deadwood. Thanks for giving me your old painter's shirt, that made a great story to the street people - told 'em I was a traveling house painter until my frail leg bones couldn't take it any longer. Thanks Curt , I was thinking of adding a H. to the middle name spot = HOMELESS, if I don't get a job by October. I have two more months to play CAR, CAR, then look for work. Life is good! Say Curt, you have a big garage that I can sleep in and store my cat,,,,,,,,,,,just a thought ------------------
