I took my red Prowler out for a drive on PCH in Newport Beach, CA on Sunday, April 8. Beautiful weather. Top down. I had a great CD going (The Hard Rock Cafe Rock & Roll album). I was going along one of the cute picturesque streets in Corona del Mar when wham! A lady backing out of her driveway crashed into me. Took out the right front bumper, crushed the fender, and because I was moving about 20 mph the rear bumper of her car scraped all along the right side of the car. I was stunned. Her husband came rushing out of the house and seemed equally stunned. At first she said she didn't see me but her husband looked at her like she was crazy. They both apologized profusely and I had the car towed to the 5 Star dealer in Irvine. Tuttle Click tells me the car will be as good as new but I'm not sure how long it will take. I checked with an exotic car rental place in the area and they rent Prowlers for $299/day. I intend to ask the insurance company for $300/day for each day the car is laid up. The body department manager at Tuttle Click tells me that their people are trained on Prowlers and Vipers. Any thoughts out there as to whether this is the best place to get the cat fixed? What about the per diem? Thanks for your help. ------------------ |

Jack that reallys stinks, I would just check with the body shop that is doing the repairs and look for yourself if the shop in question deals with the highend cars. I would demand all parts to be replaced because the door and engine side panels are aluminium. The front fenders are a composite. One of the bonuses of living in SoCal some of the best Bodyshops in the world are here. Just make sure the one that you are going to is one of those. Good Luck ------------------ |

Sorry to hear about your terrible luck. Bummer. I doubt if your insurance co. is going to foot the bill for a Prowler Rental. They will probably offer you a Neon, since it is also a Plymouth. I'll bet your policy states what the maximum amount per day will be. Hopefully they will be working on your cat and getting it finished quickly. |

Jack, I am in the collision industry and deal with this on a daily basis. There are a few things to consider. One my not knowing the CA laws regarding rental. Two is deminished value. Three, who is her insurance co? As a claimant in Texas, You have more rights than an Insured on rental. We are limited to a 30/600.00 max rental expense. However as a claimant, we are affored a "Comprable" vehicle to drive until the vehicle has had reasonable time to be repaired. The insurance company sets the "reasonable" ! What you need to make VERY clear is, This is a limited production vehicle and parts are not easy to obtain in a timely fashion. Item # two: Deminished value, The laws are so unclear on this and its very hard to determine. Fact is, its true and real! Try to sell your car? See what happens? "you want how much?" "for a wrecked car?" Item # three: Differant insurance co's work differant ways. Hopefully being in the area she lives, she has a good carrier! That will in itself determine your experiance with both the repair facility and accident. As far as the dealer and techs, ask to see the I-CAR certifications! Make sure the tech has completed the CR200 collision repair principals and Alum. repair courses. SETTLE FOR NOTHING LESS!!!! I do know a repair facility there and can get you in contact with them. The owner is nationally recognized for writting collision management and repair manuals. He even has a School in Santa Barbara which is acredited by U.C. for collision repairers..... call me if you need anything..... Don Ward 1-800-406-8374 Good Luck and I hope this helps...... |

I was in a wreck in 79. I had just bought a brand new Trans Am 6.6. Last of the big blocks. Was on my way to the bank to make the FIRST payment and some idiot in the right lane decided he wanted to turn left and t-boned me at about 35 miles an hour forcing me into a culvert which abruptly ended where the side street was that he was trying to get to. It was like getting hit twice. He was ticketed and jailed for no identification and being drunk. Had it towed to the dealer and there it sat. Their insurance said mine had to look at it. Mine said the dealer had to look at it. Dealer said guy who was at fault, insurance had to look at it. So there it sat while they chased their tails for 30 days. Yes, 30. Finally, the dealer informed me they were to haul it away for storage and towing fees. I paniced. I called a lawyer and within 30 minutes someone was looking at the car. Within two weeks the car was fixed and two months later the insurance company settled for an additional $30K. If they would have just listened to me, it would have only cost them around $3K total. As it stands, it coust them $33K. I'm not crazy about lawyers but, sometimes it puts the fear of God into the insurance companies.... ------------------ Mods: 2001 Speed Yellow Porsche Cabriolet |

p.s. you'll never get them to spring for $250/day for a rental regardless of their insurance or the amount. Not what you wanted to hear but, it's the truth. I would get depreciation on the car from them and sell it the day you get it back. If they hit it good enough, it will never be 100% the same and the money you get from them could go towards another cat..... ------------------ Mods: 2001 Speed Yellow Porsche Cabriolet |

Jack, Sorry to hear about your accident. I hope everything goes well with the repairs. I just bought another Prowler and have my previous cat sitting in the garage right now. It's yours to use for as long as you need it. I wouldn't want you to go into withdrawals. I know how much you loved and babied your ModRod. |
