Hi
I just heard from a friend on the phone, oh.. by the way, this person sold cars for a long time. He is retired now, but still knows alot of people in the business.

He said that BAD DC dealers, drive these Prowlers around for a while with the speedometer turned off and then re-connected them, cleans them up and sell them for new ones. This makes me sick. How do you check for the real millage on these cars anyway.

I find that hard to believe but a dealer can go into the brain box and find out the actual mileage. I doubt you would have any recourse.

Why upset yourself, enjoy your beautiful Kat.

Sasy - That is a true statement, but was done in the days of cable driven speedos. Would disconnect at the tranny (pull plastic gear out) or at the cruise control box under the hood. The dealerships I worked at in the 70s, this was always done on salesman's personal demos. I didn't approve, but it wasn't my dealership either.

I think GaryC is right about now-a-days. ELECTRONICS

The actual mileage is stored in the Body Control Module. The only way to change the mileage is to change the BCM. You must specify mileage at time of ordering the replacement and the old unit must be returned to a special dept of DC. Even taking the speedo head out has no effect, mileage is still recorded, even increases when you backup.
Now how do I know this?
When I picked up my 99, it had another car's TCM. One car had a problem so dealer swapped parts from another car to test and never swapped back. After I found out, I did quite a bit of testing.
