Hello, I am a new Prowler owner 01 Black Tie as of Thursday.

I was talking to a friend that has a close friend at the plant where they make the Prowlers. He gave me some shocking info. He said the when the production changed went from 00 to 01, that some of the silver 00 were "so called" converted to 01 Black Ties. I am understanding that there are some production change to 00 to 01, mainly suspension improvements.

My question is how do I know I have a real 01 Black Tie and not a left over 00 silver converted to a black tie. This had me a bit concerned.

SasyMama............You can check for the Black Tie number of the vehicle which is located on the decklid on the stripe. It is my understanding that there were Silvers built in 2000, but the Black Ties were not done until 2001. If you have a concern as to whether your vehicle is a 2000 or 2001 (regardless of the Black Tie scheme) please email me the last 8 digits/letters of your vin number starting from the right hand side and we will be happy to check the number for you to verify.

Congratulations on your new cat and welcome to the POA board!!!

SassyMama, all the suspension changes were implemented with the 2000 model year & carried forward into 2001.

As CJ said all the true Black'tie's were numbered. There were 163 Black Ties built (151 for U.S.; 12 for Canada). Once you provide her the vin #s, she can validate. And, all of these were 2001 models to my knowledge.

There were 5 "Pilots" Prowlers built in 2000. However, these are classifieds as two tones... No signatures just picture cars... They are NOT Black Ties.

You can look at the production figures for all years & colors. From the main page click on the link that says production as of Feb. 28, 2001.

Congrats and enjoy the new Kat...

Hi Prowler Junkie
I checked the production date 09-00 and the window sticker says 01 - here are the last 8 1V700571.
OH by the way on the truck lid it is #46.
Thanks
PS. I have always had customized cars but I am afraid to do
anything to this car since it is a Black Tie. Anyone you know have done some custom work to Black Ties, like flames. I was just thinking of a Dr. Rau (If i can find him) additonal red pin strip and my name on the truck lid. and I would like a chrome grill too.

Sasy - Check out the vendors of aftermarket equipment, found on the Homepage of this website, to see grilles available. Also, go back through these posts from ten to fifteen days back - post by CStall - about inexpensive way to chrome hi-lite your grille. There is also a company you can send your grille to have chromed - $400 area.

Welcome to the board! Watch out for that patrolman I emailed you about in Lambertville - but he will give you 15 MPH over the speed limit

There are many after market products available to modify your Black Tie that are easily removed so you can return the car to original. The grille is one of the more easy ones. If you purchased the car as an investment I would not recommend altering the paint.
