Just got my second one, a 2001 Mulholland. Can't believe the difference betwen this one and my 1999 Purple. Suspension is noticably more comfortable, and the steering is firm. Is it my imagination, or have they tweaked the drive train? I swear its smoother, and faster off the line.

You are correct, the suspension was modified, in addition to the tires which made for a much smoother ride in the cat.

I should get mine on Wednesday (yeeehaw)- I was looking at one the other day and noticed that the front fenders are a lot lower in the back than previous ones I have seen - is this new for the '01 or did they start this earlier?

Performance things I notice immediately: Rides softer. Steering wheel has "European" feel (it's solid...'99 feels like the thing has almost no control). Exhaust is "throatier". Cockpit may be smaller. Seems harder to get into. Car is faster, and shift points are smoother. They obviously have continued to work on things that werem't optimal when these were first built.

I have a 2K black and would concur with CJ comments. My poor kidneys are happy with the suspension upgrades they made from the 1999. I still feel every bump but I don't have the stearn kidney punch of the 1999 and before.

I have talk to a couple of hotrod/formula one enthusiasts and all are shocked that DC put a run flat system on the Prowler. They all tell me to get rid of it because the run flat from Goodyear is a poor replacement to a can of run flat and a good soft tire. I wouldn't want to talk for Gary, but I've heard he has a non-run flat tire that is very smooth. I know Gary has talked about the ride on his Cat but made he would share it in this thread!!!!

As the one formula one guy put it. A can of run flat will fit nicely in the trunk and give you about the same mileage as a run flat tire.

Gary C., being the older kidney sensitive guy what is your opinion???

I've been thinking of putting better tires on the Prowler before the other performance improvements. What do you think.

My 99 with the Dunlops make the car ride better than my 2000.

For drag racing they are not the answer at all. I will keep them on and get drag tires for drag racing.

Hope this help.

The car was a test bed for new technology. Because of the styling, there was no room for a spare, obviously. Tire pressure monitoring and run-flat tires were new technology for Chrysler. Prowler was selected to gain experience with not only the use of aluminum, but the tire technology. When customers were unhappy with the ride, they moved quickly to improve it.

I have driven the 2000's, and the ride is significantly smoother. However, personally, I don't really find the 99 ride all that objectionable. Obviously, this is a personal preference. The difference was not enough for me to want to trade my 99 for a 2000. You can upgrade the suspension on the 99's, as my husband will be doing. In the meantime, we did change the tire pressure to 28 lbs. in the rear, which did make some difference. I don't know if the person's size really makes any difference, but I am smaller than average (5') and I don't feel the bumps, etc. like other people seem to.

I'm considering the switch to non-run flats when & if i have to replace my tires... At least that's what I'm thinking now...

I agree with CJ, the ride seems alright to me (may have just gotten use to it or I stay on smooth streets). Now that is not easy to do down here in bayou country...

The new Z06 corvette has switched from run flats to a high performance tire (which is not a run-flat)and GM now provides a tire repair kit instead of spare tire (it may be fix-a-flat; I haven't seen one). The other C5s convertible & T-top still have the run flats (and no spare tire)... All of these models have different size wheels front & back.

Cliff,

Fenders on our Purple 99 and Blue 01 are the same height.

I know a person that got a 2000 Yellow and one fender was lower in the back than the other. Turned out to be a mounting bracket that was made incorrectly.

Maybe they had a run of bad brackets.

You'll be able to tell right away when the Mud Guards go on
that how it became obvious on the Yellow mentioned above.

Deelmakur,

I have a Purple 99 and just picked up our Blue 01 on Sunday and don't notice anything significant. The ride is a little softer and a little throatier exhaust.

The steering and acceleration I haven't noticed a big difference. I've had the dealer update my PCM and TCM on the 99 several occasions and after one of the updates noticed a significant improvement. Check with your dealer to update your PCM or TCM or both.
