Had a very interesting thing happen yesterday...paralell parked in front of the bank to make some deposits, had about 3 spaces, so I left about half a car length between me and the Toyota pick-up in front of me....was getting my banking sorted out and this guy comes out of the bank and gets in his truck, puts it in reverse and I watch in slow motion as he backs into the Prowler with me still in the car....hit me so hard it knocked the mail out of the seat and onto the floor....I imediately got his plate number just in case...well, he proceeds to put the old truck in gear and heads off down the street....keep in mind this is the main street of downtown New Castle....it is a state hiway with only 2 lanes of traffic and parking on each side of the street, really kind of narrow....his truck was quite ratty looking and had a trailer hitch on the back.....I assumed the worst, so I took off after this guy chasing him thru the center of town, passing cars and blowing the horn...caught up with him a couple of blocks down the street, passed him and locked it up, slid sideways across both lanes and stopped him...too many episodes of Starsky and Hutch I guess...anyway, he not only looked surprised, but somewhat scared....I was sitting sideways in the middle of the street, traffic was stopped both directions and he was trapped, I was coming out of my car when he very politely stuck his head out the window of his truck and asked "did I bump into your car ??? "...I told his a few things I won't print here and we pulled the cars over into a parking lot....I was flabbergasted, my Kat had not even a scratch on the bumpers....the hitch must have went beside the nose as he was backing up....no holes, scratches, dents...NOTHING...I gave this kid a pretty good talking to while I had his attention, he heard pretty much my entire vocabulary of profanity...doubt he will leave the scene ever again, or at least he will have a faster getaway vehicle....I was truly amazed the air bag didn't go off, it was really quite a jolt....after all the talk the last few days about parking problems then this happens....without the bumpers, no doubt there would have been several thousand $$$ in damage......the perils of driving a Kat as a regular every day car....It's worth it though ------------------ |

Thanks for sharing this story. Glad to hear you are OK and that the Cat's not hurt either. It shows to go ya'! Some people are so incredibly self-centered or sleazy that he did not even believe he had any liability to you for that hit. What audacity! ------------------ |

I'm glad you're OK, then I'm glad the car is fine too. What an idiot that kid, not taking the resposability of his actions. It made me laugh then schiver when the story states "did I bump into your car ???" What a moron! I'm glad you kept a cool temper, because i would have done worse. Good job and I'm glad your Ok. ------------------ 2000 Prowler Woodward Edition (red/black-USA) |

I knew there was a good reason I like my bumpers. I shall keep them for life. Thanks for the story. Glad the kid didn't have a gun. ------------------ |

Glad no damage! I have a bump and run story too. I was at a funeral and after the cemetary, we parked at my cousin's house. Not much room-nose to tail. I left late and the person in front of me had gone. I didn't take notice of any damage as it was getting dark. The next day, I went to visit my bud's at the local bike shop. When I went in I saw a guy from the local Hell's Angels loading stuff into the back of his truck getting ready to leave and eyeing my Cat. When I left from my visit I saw the front grill had been pushed in. I have no bumpers. Now I dont know if this was from a relative or the Angel. No damage though, as I just loosened up the brackets and straightened everything out and good as new. ------------------ |

Did you hear about the punk kid who rammed a bunch of cars here, killed 4 people, injured badly a 5th and then tried to run for it? Things could be worse. ------------------ |
