saw the real thing(Prowler)? I was driving home from work one Saturday afternoon on the interstate and noticed a UPO(unidentified purple object)at the horizon, I sped up to see what this uniquely shaped automobile was and as I got closer and closer the image of the most beautiful car in the world came to light. I passed to the left to get a glimpse of the Kat's profile, when I saw the driver's look of satisfaction and contentment, I thought to myself I wanted to be that driver. Two weeks later, I had my very own Prowler in the garage. |

It was 1995? in Cincinnati at the new car show in February and the Prowler on display was the preproduction prototype. I thought it was the coolest car that I had ever seen. Next vision came at Jake Sweeny Chysler/Plymouth in 1997 and they wanted $70,000. ------------------ |

The way I see it, if you can afford it, the Price doesn't matter. The first time I saw a Prowler was in 96 or 97, Purple of course and I was pumping gas in the truck at a shell station, I thought it was way cool. So, when we sold the beach house last May, I said to myself I want to get a PT. So my friend at Jack Powell said he would give me a call when one came in. After a couple of weeks he called and I dropped everything and ran down there. It was nice I thought slam it, 20 inch wheels, killer stereo and a rad paint job and I would have a have my factory warranteed hot rod, so I walked in side to get a brochure and there was a black Prowler sitting there and the rest in HISTORY. ------------------ This message has been edited by Gary C on 02-10-2001 at 10:46 PM |

I was at the Cleveland Ohio auto show in 1996 and saw my first Prowler. As everyone else says, the rest is all history. What a great car! I'm still in awe whenever I drive mine!! ------------------ |

I was my 1st "Prowler" when the car was just a drawing back in the early 90's or so. I did not see a real Prowler until around 1999 on the freeway as it wizzed by me. It was the ONLY one I had seen driven before I bought my 1st, and I have still only seen one other actually on the road, not counting the Prowler runs, since I bought my 1st last September 2000. ------------------ |

My buddy bought the first Purple Prowler in 1997 that hit LA (Orange County. The dealer had a market adjusted price of $100,000.00 and he worked the salesmen and paid $85,000.00 and he still has it and drives it often. What a deal.................. |

I first saw the Prowler when it was a concept in Car And Driver magazine in 1993 when I was 20 and had always thought about getting one. In fact, the magazine sits on the shelf next to my computer and I sometimes go back and re-read the articles about the prototype and it makes me realize that I have come a long way. The first time I saw one on the street was in May of 1999, when I was 25, right before I bought my Corvette. I saw the car and couldn't stop looking at it. I thought about getting one instead of the Corvette but then started remembering reviews about the new C5 Corvette and how it had "Lexus-like quality" and that it was the "best Vette yet" and the reviews about the Prowler: "impracticle", "no rearward visibility", "creaks and rattles", "$40,000 marked up to $100,000 +". So I ruled out the Prowler. After 8 months of problems with the POS Corvette, In February of 1999, I then went looking on a Sunday for a new car. As my friend and I were heading to the first dealership we passed a silver Prowler on the way. I turned to my friend and said "Thats what I want right there". He didnt even know what it was. So I did some investigating and realized that the car was in my price range and came in red. I looked for a red one locally and they were all marked up $4K - $20K over sticker, even the used ones. After a month of searching, I found one online in Louisiana for MSRP. I called them up and found out what it would take to buy the car and bought it on the spot. Sold the POS Corvtte and have been smiling ever since. Bill Gallagher |

William - that "Car and Driver" mag was my first taste of the Prowler. When they showed up with their $50,000 mark up over window - I said I could wait. Owned a '96 Corvette and was ready to buy a C5 2000. Went to the Phoenix Auto show for new cars, and there was a Prowler sitting there that they even let you sit in. I got in and shut the door and thought - maybe I can buy one of these bad as$ cats. While scanning the computer one night, got into AutoTrader.com website and found on the last pages, YOU could buy a cat for MSRP. Have check, will travel!

I saw my first Prowler when it was on display at "Chryslers at Carlisle", the first year it was there. It was either 1993 or 1994. I told me wife that day that we would be buying one if they ever built it. When the announcement was made to build them, I immediately went to the local dealer and arranged to get their first Prowler. In exchange for the Prowler I agreed to buy six new cars from him over the next five years. I actually bought seven. My purple Prowler came in during February of 1998. The dealer said that he would split the money he made over list with me if I would wait for the second Prowler. I agreed, we split the profit and I received my yellow in July of 1998 for list price. It was a good deal all around. ------------------ |

1st Prowler I actually saw was at the Mopar Nationals when it was on the concept show circuit either `93 or `94 I have several photo's of the purple $2,000,000 (at least that is what I was told) concept car. From that point on I said I wanted one and my wife agreed. I started collecting everything I could find that had Prwoler in or on it. I told the dealer that I had been buying cars from I wanted the 1st Prowler they got. Well in Febuary of `96 the saleman I always used called and said the dealership owner took a deposit on the 1st Prowler they were to get. So later that afternoon I was there with check in hand for the 2nd Prowler. Everyone thought I was crazy. I didn't know when it would be built, how much it was going to cost and when I would get it. I was not happy that I would not get the 1st one but sure am glad now, since I got a yellow and Dale got the Purple. I was able to pick my car up in July of `98 for MSRP. It took less than 4 months for the wheels to be sent out to be chromed, the custom paint layout decided and the beginning of one "WildCat". The customizing has slowed down but it will NEVER be done ------------------ |

I fist saw the Prowler in person at the 1997 Atlanta Auto Show. I must have come back to look at it twenty times while I was there. I looked at the sticker and thought to myself, I can do that. They had to clean the drool marks from the carpet of the display area after I left. I went home and showd my wife pictures but she did not like it. Then we attended an Oldies Concert which had a car show out in the parking lot. Dealer had a Purple Prowler there with a trailer. My wife took one look and fell in love same as me. Up until that time she wanted me to get a street rod but after seeing the Cat there was no doubt.

I was so involved in my business, that I didn't see a Cat till mid 00. One month later, I owned one. As a youth, cars were my main focus and this crossed over between bikes and cars till the early 90s. Getting back into the Cat was my reintroduction into cars. Where was I for 9 years?? ------------------ |

Saw my first one, in the car and driver mag. I called the local dealer and asked about the Plymouth Prowler and told them I wanted one, no one knew what I was talking about. I gave them my phone number and told them to call me when they get some info. About 3 days later a salesman called me back and said they were getting one in but they did not know when. They told me they were going to sell it 10K over sticker. The saleman said that was the best they could do. I went to the bank got the money and was there in 30 min.HEHE about a week later they found out what a mistake they made and asked me did I want back out,I think someone was fired over this. I said no thanks, HEHE It took all my friends to the state fair to look at this car drove my wife crazy talking about it. Well to make it short I sold it for $85K to someone who wanted it more than me.now I bought a 99 with the money I made, but hade to wait a little till the prices went down. ------------------ |

My first sight of the Plymouth Prowler was at the 1993 Detroit Auto Show when it was introduced to the public. It was love at first sight and I told Bob at that moment that someday I had to have one! Since Bob was part of the Prowler team, I was fortunate to be able to attend a number of shows with him and hand out posters to the public, answer questions, etc. The more I was around it, the more I loved it! Then, the sports marketing company that I worked for handled the Plymouth Prowler Roadshow program for Chrysler. I was the Program Manager and I went to a lot of the events that it went to and did the same thing. It was my job to answer questions, hand out literature, posters, etc. We also sold Prowler merchandise from the display rig. I collected Prowler things. Bob gave me a purple and black leather jacket (the first design) and I had lots of other apparel because of my job with the display rig. I had ordered my personal plates 3 years before I got the car, so that when I finally did, all the good ones weren't taken!! We just maintained the plates on our other vehicles. I had everything but the cat. It just confirmed my love for the car, even though it was really hard to be around it and not be able to own one.... until Bob gave me mine in 1999! I have been connected with the Prowler for a long time and have never lost the love and excitement for this car. And curiously enough, every where I drive my cat, people still react the same as the day it was first shown!!! |

I remember the Car & Driver article about the Prowler and how it looked. It was an eye catcher. I didn't think anything of it because of what they proposed the value of the car would be was out of my price. Around Sep'99 I began looking for a car to purchase, but wasn't quite sure. I was visiting some friends in Houston at the time & was interested in the MB 230SLK Kompressor. We all went to the MB dealership (off of 59) and was looking at all of the Benz's. My friends & I began to browse the lot & noticed a strange looking car (at the used lots' corner). It was a '97 Prowler (with very low mileage). It looked cramped & very low to the ground. At the time I was looking for a Standard gear shift & not automatic. I had searched for about 3 months & heard of the 320 SLK to come out in March'00 (not for sure). So I waited. Didn't even cross my mind about the Prowler. Around November I began to be interested in the Audi TT, but was more interested in its 250HP model. That wasn't expected to be available for a long time. I looked on the Audi discussion boards & began to hear of all of the problems the TT had. That got thrown out the window. Around December, my parents called me up and asked me to find the car I wanted. They didn't say much after that. So I began to look around. I went from an SUV to a hot rod. Remember, they didn't give me a price tag to stay under. I read articles on the Viper & Prowler. I liked what it said about both & they came in many colors. I had gotten all of the materials on both cars & read both the good & bad about them. I went to my local Chrysler/Plymouth dealership & asked if I could take a test drive, early one morning. It was 7:30 am on a Saturday. It was before I was going to see my parents. The Asst Sales Mgr allowed me to drive the Black Prowler, but not the silver Prowler they had on the showroom floor. I liked the drive & the looks I got from other people. I am now 27 years old. I went to my local Dodge dealership to test drive a Viper, but they general manager wouldn't allow me to take a test drive. I had to be willing to purchase a Viper & place $10K down before I could take out the Viper in their Showroom. That Pissed Me OFF! I have never seen a salesman ask that. Well, I left (not looking back) to find another dealer. If I couldn't drive the Viper, then I wouldn't mind just sitting in one to get the feel. For that, he also said no. I began to look at the residual values between these to cars & noticed that the Prowler had a better residual than the Viper after 5 years. From that it was an easy decision. I let my father find the Prowler I wanted, but he had no luck in finding one at MSRP. I browsed the internet and was sucessful at Autotrader.com. I was able to find many at MSRP. On April 26, 2000, I was told that I was getting my Prowler that day during lunch. All my co-workers couldn't believe it & wasn't going to till it arrived. From that day onwards, I have coolest car in the Parking Lot & all of the Directors & VP's were Jealous (of the attention). Just guess what they have...Porsches & Beamers. Not only did I have the hottest car at my building, but I had one of the hottest cars in the company for not being a Director, Manager, or VP. I am not going to enhance my Prowler for speed, but for looks...definitely YES! For all of the Prowler owners who state that they don't get attention with their Kats, I drew a crowd of People from looking at a Ferrari, Porsche & BMW all in the same parking lot. I LIKE IT! I have never seen a car that was given soooooooooo much attention than the Prowler. Like Mike K. said (in one of the postings) its not the power the people are interested in, its the look. Niranjan |
