Hey ya'll, Got the cover today. Looks great, but have two questions: Do you use the stock bolts to hold in place, or did some of you chrome them, too? Also, it seems when in place that the plastic panel below the rear plate touches the top of cover. Any problems with this as far as discoloration due to the heat? Maybe this doesn't get very hot. Thanks, jb

I used the bolts provided by Carlini. Looks fine. But I did buy 8 1/16th inch thick stainless steel washers to use as spacers to provide better heat/air flow. 2 washers per bolt placed between the cooler frame and the Carlini cover. I think the cost for the washers from the hardware store was 50 cents, pre-sales, luxury, liquor, education, government official re-election campaign tax, Slick Billy legal defense fund tax, and welfare tax.

My rear plate doesn't touch the top of the cover.

jb - just buy the SS washers, and you'll be OK. Didn't you get bolts from Carlini?

Heat shouldn't be a issue with the cooler cover.

I used the stock bolts myself. If you want the type Carlini uses but better, get Stainless Steel ones, they will not rust where the allen part is unlike chromed ones.

Nightprowler...

I just installed my cover last week, been watching the temp guage and see no difference. Has temp increased with using the Carlini cover?

Are spacers really needed?
I think they are a good idea too, but wonder if anyone had been running hot because of the cover without spacers.

Are spacers "necessary"?..I don't think so. Does it help with heat transfer? My humble sober opinion-yes. My fan rarely comes on with the spacers. With the Carlini "shield" and without the spacers my fan would come more often given a constant ambient outside temperature. But so long as your tranny cooler fan comes on, with or without the Carlini shield, you should be ok. I never tested the temperature of the trans oil fluid with and without the Carlini cover.

I wouldn't make a mountain out of a mole hill on this topic. The Carlini shield should be a stock item on a Prowler. Hey Gary E, do I get 25% off my next purchase for this plug???

Now wait a sec....you guys are talking about fans kicking on b/c of heat and what not...BUT....there is no fan on the tranny is there?? The fan on the radiator would have nothing to do with cooling the tranny since they are located so far apart. I would think that the Carlini cover would only make your tranny heat up since it is taking away from the wind blowing thru the fins on the tranny cooler. The only reason i can see for the cover is so that your fins dont get bent up or paint come off. Get back to me on what you are tryin to say..

There is a fan behind the tranny oil fluid cooler-that black thing on the rear of the car between the exhaust pipes. Loosen the 4 bolts holding the cooler to the bracket and you will see the fan. I believe Mr. Dan Pena has a picture of the fan in his Gear project photo section on his site.

Jason, go around a few 40 MPH corners doing 75 and you'll hear this fan go on I don't think the heat bit is a real issue unless your truly drag racing.
