The full year 2000 sales is one huge # of new Prowler owners out there somewhere... The total 2000 sales (2,631) were up 11% over total 1999 sales (2,365). Dec 2000 sales (150) compared to Dec 1999 (252) were down -40%. Still more Prowler sales than Viper. ------------------ |

Just a different thought on reading these numbers....99 figures could have been much higher, except for the pricing practices of many dealers and periodic production problems ....2000 figures tell me there is less demand than in the past, because pricing problems at the dealers have been largely done away with and most production problems have vanished....so the market has been more or less satisfied(many 99 buyers had to wait for a 2000)....also there seems to be far more Prowlers on the showroom floors now than a year or so ago(over inventory)....many dealers are sitting with several in stock, even different colors to choose from, in the past the cars were sold as they came off the truck unless pricing was too outrageous....Dec sales being down...was it production problems, shipping, weather, stock market, general economy being soft...who knows...I just have a feeling the Kat has had its best years and will never see such numbers again....most serious buyers have had almost 4 years to buy one....could be that everyone that really wants one, has one....I think the demise of the Kat as we know it is near....there are NO, REPEAT NO planned changes in store for the car, it is to finish its life exactly as it is, except for a few new colors.....the Kat is done, believe me...just a matter of time before the new successor is named...may be the Crossfire, may be something else...maybe the Charger in a 2dr version...something else will take its place in the near future and we will own the last of a "once in a lifetime" car....I really enjoy driving and owning a Kat(Kats).... ------------------ |

My thought's exactly, I will be almost shocked if there is a 2003 Kat. I'm glad I waited for the last of the production and reasonible prices though... but I feel if you want a new one, now's the time, and it will never be better. I just wish interests rates were lower... if I could get 6% financing I could own two more Kats! ------------------ |

I don't disagree with what you guys have said BUT I think a lot of people still think they are selling in the $75,000 to $90,000 range and think there is a huge waiting list. I have had those comments made to me quite a few times in the past year. I think if they advertised them a little bit more, the sales would pick up. They did not have to advertise to sell the first 5000 or so, to the hard core devotees but now the people on the fence might buy one if they knew the price and availability. JOMO |

Kats can be had at sticker nowadays. My friend, in Ft.Lauderdale, FL is selling his 2000 Silver Kat (300 miles) for $40,000. He got a Shelby Cobra now. |

I've been tracking the sales figures since Jan 1998. I get them from the official DC media site where they post US sales. These are sales by calendar year irrespective of model year. Example: some 2000 sales could be 1999 model year Prowlers. Year .. U.S. Sales Total US production through Dec 2000 is 7,803. Canada total production is 468 and there are 113 pilot Prowlers for a grand total of 8,384 produced through 12/31/2000. They don't provide sales by color. However, you can get the production by color from the production data on this site by year. The production data includes Prowlers both for US & Canada along with pilots cars built. Based on the sales figures compared to the production #s, my guess is there are 850 to 900 new Prowlers which have been built & not sold. I don't have the 1997 sales figures so I used the US production number for 1997 to estimate the 97 sales (this probably overstates the sales since some of the 97s could be in the 1998 calendar year sales figures). ------------------ |

Thanks for the numbers Laddie. Ed - You are right, afew national ads would ignite sales interest. On the other hand, I wouldn't want the whole neighborhood to own one. More smiles per miles |

Heres what I was told. In 2004 the side impact rules will change. Chrysler is not going to spend the money to accommadate this change. So if theres still demand, 2003 will be the last. |
