Is the 2001 orange Prowler, California emissions legal?

I thought I read all the 2001 Prowlers, are all 50 states smog legal. I ordered a new one from Lincoln, NE. Now I am getting worried about whether I can register it in CA when it gets shipped to me.

I have asked many dealers including the one in NE. They don't seem to know. They say what ever they think I want them to say.

I even called the Plymouth phone #. They said I would have to check with the Secretary of State of California…… What?

I wrote to the Chrysler question site. I got back:

"Dear James,
Thank you for your e-mail to DaimlerChrysler.
The Plymouth Prowler with VIN XV500402 was built to pass California emissions. Only vehicles built for California or ordered with California emissions will be able to pass the CA emissions standards. There will be a sticker or name plate under the hood of the car which will indicate the type of emissions the vehicle has.
If you have further questions, let me know."

The VIN # is from my 99 purple, not the new 2001 that I ordered

So is this the word? I ordered a Prowler from advice in this Discussion Forum. Am I screwed?

Gary or CJ may have an answer for me. Thanks for your help.

If it is already smog legal for CA, how do I prove it when I try to register it with the DMV? Does it have a plaque that says it?

If it is not smog legal for CA, what do I need to do to make it so?

Thanks again. I am getting worried!

PP - Is the car built? If so, have them check under the hood for the white emissions label. The label will clearly state whether or not it is CA legal. If you have a VIN # for the car, please email it to me ASAP. Will only be at work tomorrow and off for the rest of the year. Or you can call us with the VIN# - I will email you the phone numbers.

We will try to help you with this...

Jim - The two Prowlers sold before mine came in to Lincoln, Ne, both went to Calif. for delivery. Call Jody on 800#, and she should confirm that. 800-345-8013

I thought Gary once posted that all Prowlers were Calif. legal? I believe this to be true. Anyone have exact facts?

don't forget CA sales tax of 8.4%, you have to pay that on top of the price. I'm going to try and register my orange in Oregon, the black cost me $4500 in sales tax! Where in Cali are you? Los Angeles here.

Kid?….lol. Thanks Y2K YELO!

Todd, I am from Pacifica, CA. It is just South of San Francisco. I will register the car in January after I get it. The sales tax is actually going down a quarter of one percent. Which is over a hundred dollars. Not too bad.

Jim - you look like Robert Duvall.

I like the hat, and have one similar.

Let me know when new cat arrives, as Russwood will owe me another prime rib dinner. Yummy.
