I just got the black cat back with those mud flaps from the dealer ( I learned as I picked it up they also offer rear ones, oh well, it works). But, DAM, those are LOW. I guess that'll slow me down!

Gary C, WHY not trim them??? There's many horrors stories and on my kat they drug going up my driveway. I took about an 1 1/2" ofand think they are still effective, yet not so risky.

It is warranty issue if you suck the fender under the front tires.

After Woodward and 7042 miles on the road I was bumded at the damaged on the Kat.

I took an inch and a half off.

The Leopard Prowler has full flaps and will remain that way.

I would rather tear fenders off than to repaint the sides of my car.

You just need to be a little more aware.

I have had no problems with the front. I did not like the rear ones, so I got regular flaps for the rear with YosimeneSam saying Back Off. Seems to work. Most people seem to stay a little further back off my bumper at the lights. Looks pretty good and works better than the short factory stuff.

I keeped my mud flaps long and it cracked one of my fenders. I went to the dealer and he said they would cover the fender this time, but I need to trim the flaps, cause if I didn't they would not cover the fender anymore.

It cracked one of your fenders? Just how did this happen, with what kind of miles and where was the crack? I figured I'd risk a fender pull then "for sure" side paint damage to the cat.

Debbie,

If your dealership is telling you that, I would tell THEM to trim them. That way, if there are any more problems, they can't point blame at you. If "you" modify them, "they" can legally void your warranty on that "Mopar" item.
I'm still debating on trimming mine, they keep scrubbing the speed bumps.

^..take speed bumps at an angle but with front wheels straightened up if you can. Flap on the turn side (right flap on right turn) actually drops lower during the turn. If you sense resistence when backing out of pothole or over speedbump, stop and find another way out. If flap gets pinched between pothole edge and tire while backing up, in Gary's words, the fender will get sucked under the wheel.

Todd - Mike is speaking from experience!!

I have the mud flaps also. Won't trim them. The only trouble I have had is scraping them while driving down my driveway. They don't scrap if I back down the driveway, so......!

Debbie - I believe that Just JP is probably right. Mud flaps are a Mopar item. Whenever you alter or modify, you are running the risk of voiding the warranty.

Just my 2 cents---before the flaps, the car got dirty-REAL dirty! After the flaps with 1 1/2 inch trim, the car stays a lot better. Maybe a LITTLE dirt on the rockers, thats it. I would rather give up a little protection for the sake of looks and having to go through the whole process of fender replacement~repair from full flap possible damage.

My vote: full flaps, not so concerned so much with the dirt as I am with the rocks being thrown on the rockers and side of car. I usually dont back up over speed bumps so Im not too worried about pulling a fender down. Besides, if that is a concern I would learn to drive it to avoid that issue. I am on my second pair, as the the rubbing over the speed bumps scraped them on the edges. A small price to pay for the protection they supply.

I have mud flaps, both front and back. I sure wish I had put them on sooner!!!!!!!
I live on a dirt road, and let me tell you - the damage from rocks far a weigh replacing the bumpers. The rocks usually would hit the door panel. I would go as slow as I could on the dirt road, and slow on the pavement untill I didn't hear any more rocks being flung; and still I got chips out of my paint from rocks. And now that I have the mud flaps its much, much better. I vote for the mud flaps.

jpo350,

welcome to the site

post photo's

I thought about using those flaps that would be long enough to cover tire so I could pull trailer without bra. NO I wouldn't leave them on all the time but when cruising with the trailer for short drives

Learn how to drive your car WITHOUT trimming is my suggestion. 12,500 miles, 2 1/2 years with custom painted car and NO PROBLEM with the front fenders. Yes you have to be aware of the fact they will drag. Avoid it! learn how to minimize the problem. If you cannot avoid then as last resort trim them slightly
I go to car shows in the grass, over speed bumps, curbs into drives and have learned how to keep them from rubbing 99% of the time. Drive SLOWLY and carefully when in this situation. HOW OFTEN IS IT ANYWAY?

My 2 cents

CJ, I met DannyA on the street the other day.
RBRYellow2000, my rear mud flaps do not have
lights.
WildCat, the rear flaps I put on only hang
down about 6 inches from the bottom of the
bumper. They would not protect the trailer.

Thanks for the Welcomes. I am enjoying my
yellow Kat. Just wish the doors would
open further.
