I feel that it's very important that the event needs to be a total of nine days or less in order to make it accessible to everyone. This is why I feel that it would be best to hold the event Tuesday thru Thursday instead of the weekends. I welcome comments and suggestions about this event. I'm just now in the planning stages and would like to hear your comments and suggestions. ------------------ This message has been edited by Larry Lord on 11-12-2000 at 12:28 AM |

My Rand McNally says Rapid City is about 60 miles from the geographical center of the United States. Miles from Rapid City to: San Antonio 1234 Dallas 1071 Los Angeles 1325 Seattle 1144 Portland 1208 Detroit 1199 Chicago 912 New Orleans 1630 Phoenix 1205 St. Louis 968 Wichita 706 Denver 389 Indianapolis 1098 Sacramento 1311 Black Hills, Sturgis, Mt. Rushmore National Monument, Carhenge, Crazy Horse Monument, Jewel Caves, Deadwood (gambling), Lead (gold mine), Devils Tower National Monument, Chimney Rock National Monument, Mormon Trail, Oregon Trail, Badlands National Monument, Buffalo Gap National Grasslands, Pioneer Auto Museum and many Dude Ranches. Seems like we should be able to find something to keep us busy. Maybe early May or June. Mothers Day is May 13 and Memorial Day is May 28. My idea is to have the event run from a Monday night hospitality suite thru Thursday night. Sounds stupid but in this way most will only need to miss 5 days work. Almost all will have about 2.5 days drive to get there and another 2.5 to get home. Your opinions please! |

Average High: 68.1° F Average Low: 42.3° F Unlike the GC deal, which was gorgeous, we will see a multitude of different type scenery. Great Idea Larry. Please someone elses opinion on this 2001 Event. This message has been edited by Gary C on 11-10-2000 at 11:01 AM |

Having Prowled the Black Hills and badlands in the summer of 99 two months after getting my Cat I agree this would be a great place for a large prowler cruise. Many sights to see, good open roads as well as beautiful black hills to drive, an area that is used to vehicle fanatics with their annual Sturgis motorcycle gathering. Most difficult part might be having some local help in ironing out the details (recognizing all that Roger and the Ghostriders did for the GC tour). I like the idea of midweek time frame to allow travel on either end over the weekend. Remember Free Water at Wall Drug. PG PRWLR |

I agree with the place, etc. but please be aware that it can snow pretty badly at that time of year. Maybe a little later.....like early to mid-June? |

Early June preferred ... biggest Corvette show if the year s last weekend in June ... not sure how many others might attend that function as well .. just an FYI. And for those heading back west ... tie in the Crazy Horse trip with a stop at THE Crazy Horse in Vegas ... well, on second thought ... never mind =) |

Do we need to start a count down? It is absolutely beautiful there and early to mid June should be PERFECT! PaulR |

The Hot Rod Magazine Power Tour 2001 starts in Detroit on 5/3 and ends on 5/12 in San Bernardino. Was planning on taking several Northern and Southern California folks along that expressed an interest this year. Before the PT would be only reasonable time to have the event, but weather might be an issue. Don't know why they moved the PT up a month next year. My 2 cents is I would like to see the event just before the Power Tour and head there afterwards. ------------------ |

Wildcat, What can I say? I LOVE driving my car! Maybe you can make it to the Crazy Horse Tour 2001? After considering comments that have been made,,, Here's my newest idea,,,, How about starting the driving events on May 29th? The day after Memorial Day. If we do this, people would be able to travel over the Memorial Day holiday and will only need to take 4 days of vacation time. It may also be a little easier to get off work early on Friday May 25th. The event would start with a hospitality suite on Monday Night May 28 when most other travelers are heading home and would run through a Friday Morning June 1 breakfast goodbye. This schedule change would help us get into "Top Down" weather for the event as June is about 10 degrees warmer than May. It seems to me that the mid-week idea would work best for everyone and would also help eliminate some of the weekend crowds at the stops. ------------------ This message has been edited by Larry Lord on 11-11-2000 at 11:27 PM |

Just getting to and from the Crazy Horse Tour 2001 will be an event in itself. Many people will be traveling the same routes and will no doubt meet and hook up for the drive to Rapid City and their return drives home. |

Weekend travel and mid-week cruising sounds like the perfect combination. I'd suggest considering moving the event up a week to avoid all the holiday congestion for the travel weekend outbound. With alot of people traveling great distances, it would be less stressful putting in 1000 miles on open roads with "normal" traffic concerns as opposed to sharing the roads with all the big weekend travelers. With everyone traveling out on the first weekend of June instead, one week later, this will free up the Memorial Day Weekend as well. Benefits: less traffic outbound, and warmer weather for tops down (not that it would matter - how many tops were down at GC ??? -Wimps! Start the Flaming now...)and everyone will have the Memorial Day Weekend for personal plans. With family plans and barbeques, along with things like the Indy500 on that weekend, we may also get a better turn-out if we move things into June by one week. Either way, I'll be there. Just waiting on final date notification, and my vacation time will be submitted for this great event. JohnS |

Larry, we do not regret the trip but am not ready to re-do it in the next few weeks. We would definitely do it again and hope for better weather. The trip out was worth the trip back and meeting all you guys really made it worth while. I always wanted to do part of Rt.66 and our theory is getting there is half of the fun. Thanks again for all your work along with Roger, Gary C. Larry S., Mike and Judy K, CJ, David & Paul and all the rest. |

This trip would be 1486 miles for us and we would like to try to make this one. But, it would have to be a mid-week in order for us to get enough time off for the trip. |

I was using my new Rand McNally Tripmaker CD and Road Atlas that I won from the GC Raffle, and there is soooo much to see and do near Crazy Horse. Looks like we'll have another trip that will be a "Not to Miss" one. Want a cave tour by candle-lantern? You have a couple choices here. Mark your calenders and set some time aside for a great trip. I'm getting excited already! I might even beat GaryC to the "official" countdown as soon as we set the dates. JohnS |

After hearing from quite a few people already, I am leaning on beginning the drive to the Crazy Horse Tour 2001 on the Memorial Day Weekend. I realize that many people may have plans for the Holiday and that traffic will be a little more heavy on that weekend. The offsetting factors are the time off work required to attend and the fact that by departing on Friday afternoon or early Saturday everyone should have plenty of time to get to Rapid City by Monday afternoon or evening. Maybe this would be e good question for the poll of the week? This message has been edited by Larry Lord on 11-11-2000 at 11:47 PM |

5-5 thru 5-13 Presents conflicts with the Power Tour. 5-26 thru 6-3 Presents Holiday Traffic and Memorial Day Weekend 6-2 thru 6-10 Looks pretty good to me... MikeK - can we make this a Question Of the Week? JOMO I know which one I'd like - and "Tops Down!" |
