It's Hard To Top The Exotic Prowler But What Would You Expect? It's A Removable Delivery Top!
Las Vegas - One of the most striking - and unexpected - specialty vehicles featured at the 2000 SEMA Show here is an exotic 2001 Prowler with a removable hard top converting it into a classic sedan delivery style vehicle - sort of an ultra-high-performance version of the popular Chrysler PT Cruiser.

"We took a look at the new PT Cruiser - its style and utility -- and decided to design the same flavor and feel into a high-performance Prowler, another look at a classic rendition of a popular American hot rod, the Delivery, a real icon of character," said Mark Gerisch, project designer and coordinator for M&L Automotive.

M&L designed a removable aluminum hard top that fits neatly over the cockpit and rear deck of the Prowler, instantly converting the distinctive, low-slung street-rod from a classic hot-rod roadster to a distinctive, low-slung classic hot-rod panel truck.

The hard top, which M&L intends to introduce to the aftermarket, adds tremendously to the flexibility and usability of the Prowler, added storage, and more drivability for earlier in the year and later in the fall (if you're not lucky enough to live in the sun year around). It adds approximately 12 cubic feet of storage space, that is otherwise nonexistent. In all, this adds a a new dimension of style and performance to the Prowler.

The top is installed by first unbolting the clam shell trunk, unbolting and removing the soft top, then bolting on the top, which has a roll bar. It locks into the A pillars using the same connectors as the soft top. Side and rear connectors are integrated into the top giving you a sealing surface all the way around, completing the installation in less than an hour, maybe a little longer your first time.

The display vehicle is located right out front of the main entrance doors of the convention center.

The only other enhancements are a Borla exhaust system and BBS Wheels. The Removable Delivery Top is available through M&L Automotive in Manitowoc, WI for $5,800.00

Agreed. From that view it looks sharp but I would hate to see the marks left on the Prowler's trunk lid from the hardtop. And you know there will be marks regardless of what the M&L salesman tells you. Can you get 1/4" thick steel doors and 1" thick bullet proof glass?

PT Mike and Mike K. - Thanks for the info and pics. Very interesting. Makes traveling to Woodward with luggage room look more realistic, but once there, would I miss the open air? One hour off and on? Hmmmm

I was thinking the same thing. I don't have a blind spot at all compared to this, but I DO like the look. Thanks for the pic Mike!

Well, my pal-o-pal-o-mine in Vegas let me down and didn't get to the SEMA show-BUMMER! I was hoping he could cut short the wait to see different shots of the new hardtop-trunk!

If it was mentioned, I didn't see it, but did anyone else notice that this Prowler already has the Chrysler badging? JUST JP is just curious.

I have E-mailed M&L for more information; when (and if)it arrives, I'll post what they say. I asked there was the possibility of a price break if enough orders were recieved at the same time.

I like the Chrysler logo!

You have to remove the deck lid and the convertible top has to be taken out of the car in order to put this top on. Eliminates driving with the top down. What about fit when you take this off and put the convertible top back on and the deck lid back on? Still does not have as much storage as the trailer. You would have to stack things which would then block the window which gives a limited view at best.
