The full story appeared in the Houston Chronicle yesterday. It appears that Chevy is looking at producing the SSR1 (Super Sport Roadster) next year with a 300 hp 6 liter V8 developing 355 ft lbs torque. It has 20" wheels in back with 19" in front. 4 speed automatic is controled from buttons on the steering wheel. They mention that at least Chevy was putting the "GO with the SHOW" pointed at the V6 in the Prowler. The box is 5' 3" and the hardtop folds down electric back of the 60/40 seat. I have the scanned full article if your interested.

I got one thing to say about the new chevy rodster. its a truck not a street rod and its ugly. even a number of chevy people think its ugly. it dosen't even compete with the cat. |

V-8 or not, since when is a VW Beetle looking El Camino a Hot Rod???? I'm sure some will buy it, hell, if people will buy that Aztek thing, they will buy anything but, I would put it in the cute but not for me catagory. ------------------ |

There's a couple of articles in December Sport Truck mag. One is about the Howler (Prowler conversion into Mopar truck with V8 & manual tran page 54). Other article on SSR which is a truck & looks like GM will put this into production (page 48). Page 32 to 35 is article on my nephew's truck. Graphics done by same guy that did my Prowler flamin bra. |

Like the Prowler EITHER YOU GET IT OR YOU DON'T I have seen the truck and I LOVE THE LOOK. IF you like old trucks then you should like this. It looks like a chopped late 40's early `50's. I'm definately NOT a Chevy fan by no means but cool is cool and I really liked my El Camino and really like this truck too LET THE BASHING BEGIN

Coolhemi - I'm with you and HiHo on this one. Only Chevy I've owned since '55 BelAir (broke down once a week) was a Corvette - and I don't consider that a Chevy. |

))))))Grinning ---- Sheepishly(((((( I like it! But I think that I was the only person other than TGF that liked the Howler Concept. So what do I know. It's about time some of the other automakers take a chance and try to compete with DC in the "new and exciting " area. [This message has been edited by Larry Lord (edited 10-20-2000).] |

Wildcat: I like the look for the same reasons. It's got that fat fendered look of the late 40's early 50's. V-8 and RW drive is cool too. I am a big Chevy fan. My Cat is only my second Plymouth out of 32 new cars. (first one a 70 Duster, 340, auto) BUT, I don't plan on selling the cat and buying an SSR. Too much in love with the street rod !!!!!!! Always wanted one, now I have one and it's not going anywhere. Of course if I was independantly wealthy....... |

They had one of these on the Woodward Cruise TV show that was broadcast in Detroit, the two hour live show. I agree that it looks sort of like the 50's pickup trucks, but I also agree that it really is no competition for the Prowler... I mean one is a car and the other is a truck... Mike (FPO) |
