Larry, As an AVID AOL hater, I blame them. I stay clear of that company. I would recommend ANY local Internet Service provider before AOL. They, in my opinion, control WAY too much of what their customers can and can't do and besides; they charge too much. ------------------ [This message has been edited by JUST JP (edited 10-16-2000).] |

Larry- I also have found it very SLOW loading times from my ISP today. Most files I could open, but the time was ludicrous. Must be something down the lines. PaulR |

Wildcat don't listen to these anti AOL people I have had AOL for three years now and I am satisfied with it. Right now I am experiencing the same problems as you so I guess we need to find a fix! ------------------ [This message has been edited by Quicksilver (edited 10-17-2000).] |

Quicksilver-Make a change just for the heck of it. If you don't like it, switch back. I was on RCN and it was great, but have switched to cable,-A steal at $30.00 a month. Most of the people that have AOL that I forward to, can't receive big stuff because of small mailboxes-AL |

Quicksilver - I am not anti-AOL, it just never worked for me. I am on a cable modem and I use Netscape. I do not experience any problems. |

CJ my anti aol statement wasn't directed towards you. Netscape is my backup for AOL. I have tried many ISPs and seem to return to AOL. ------------------ [This message has been edited by Quicksilver (edited 10-17-2000).] |

Possible solution to slow loading problem... Try changing the default number of days that are displayed. Go to the upper right hand corner of the screen and select preferences. Once there, change the Default Topic View to show fewer days, start with 5 days and then select submit preferences. Now see if the Discussion forum loads quicker. The reason you are probably having problems reading Patricks Day is that it contains many pictures that need to load. If your Internet service provider is slow you may experience problems with this thread. There really is no reason to be getting error messages though unless AOL is having some problems. Please be more specific on any error message you might be seeing and let me know. ------------------ |

I'm now connected to another ISP by dial up phone line and connected at 26.4kbps with no problems. Microsoft has a line speed test that comes in handy for troubleshooting problems like this. Go to http://computingcentral.msn.com/topics/bandwidth/speedtest50.asp and run the test. Please post your connection speed results after running the test. Post the top number in kbps. How long have these problems been going on with AOL? ------------------ |

Mike that couldn't have been any easier! Nice site, looks like I'm at 29.8kbps. Right now I'm using AOL 4.0 without any problems, my newer version 5.0 shut down on me so I have to reload the software. This problem occured about two days ago after loading the Pole Vault video (ouch) and Patricks info? ------------------ [This message has been edited by Quicksilver (edited 10-17-2000).] |

Mile, I checked the site to get speed . It showed 41.5, I think that is good for a 56K modem Problem seems to be gone. Icons all show and logged on with no problem. I have 5.0 AOL and People PC as internet access. The people pc is new to me and I didn't like it, but today I run AOL until it kicked me off then went to People pc and it does seem to run faster and so far not been booted off. Every time I'm on Aol I get booted off at least once. I plan on evaluating the two and dropping AOL if this new one seems better Thanks Mike for the tip. ------------------ |

2834 kbps with cable modem, still I have AOL (through ISP/Lan connection) extremely fast compared to the 28.8 kps telephone line I use to have. Extremely happy with the combination. My suggestion to anybody is to call AT&T Broadband services if available, its free until March 2001. No long term contract and give it a try even if you have AOL, like me! ------------------ |

I am on AOL and continuing to experience problems. Beginning two days ago, the error message I receive, reads "website not receiving requests". Problem is intermittent, but tonight has been especially bad. All other sites that I have tried are working fine. |

I am continuing to have problems through AOL. Error message reads "site not accepting requests". This started to occur two days ago and has steadily gotten worse. |

Mike, I am running AOL 5.0, have been for months. No problems before this. I have both Internet Explorer and Netscape. They don't help if I'm having AOL troubles since my connection is still through AOL. |
