How difficult (I haven't looked yet) is it to remove/replace a bumper? The new car coming has the license plate bracket on it. ARGGGGGG! So, I am going to take my front left one off and put it on the new one and send the drilled one back to them. Is it easy to do? Do I need special tools or a PhD in mechanics to accomplish this? Thanks ------------------ |

I have seen people post their removal times, I remember seeing 18 minutes for both, A Great World Record, then 4.5 hours for one, WOW.
Good Luck and report in. |

Not a difficult job to remove, remounting is another thing.....I have removed quite a few sets (I did the 18 minute time)....secret is having the right ratchet....only place I have been able to find these is Sears....it needs to be short and a flat profile.....there is one very difficult bolt to access on each side...use a 12 or 13 mm socket(forget which at the moment)also need an open end wrench, work the wrench and socket against each other....four bolts per bumper is all there is...then unplug the light harness...very simple concept, just a bit*h to get to the 2 bolts....now, reinstalling them is another story....most difficult to get to the same two troublesome bolts.....have seen where some have taken off the side panels etc...it isn't necessary, but might make access easier....I just didn't want to get into the shims, alignment of panels etc....first time you do this, plan on at least a couple of hours to remove and replace them Good Luck....Y2K YELO X 3 |

If I don't get a chance to remove mine before the transport truck gets here, does anyone with a 2000/2001 want to sell a front left bumper? Thanks |

I have to disagree with Y2K. I had a much tougher time taking them off than putting them back on. He is absolutely right about the wrench. You need a short handle ratchet. A long handle will not fit. The nuts were welded to a short strip so the box end ratchet or an open end wrench could not be used on the back. When I put the bumpers back on I used regular nuts and kept the originals. One bolt on each side is inside a triangle and you can only move the ratchet one click at a time and that is what takes forever. It is just time consuming not really difficult technically. Good luck. HiHo, They are not hard to take off except the one bolt. I know a guy that removed his by breaking the metal strip that is welded to the nut then was able to hold the bolt and remove the nut, This would be the easiest way. Hey you could always buy new nuts if you really want the pain in the a@@ things on there. But why? ------------------ |

I took out the headlight assemblys and accessed the bolts through the front with a long extension. |

quote: I took my silver to a local mechanic and for $10 he took the one off of the silver and swapped it for the one on the new black-tie. Total time was about 10 minutes. Having the right tools made it a no brainer. Can't even tell they were switched. Thanks all. |
