I have always loved cars. When I was little I could name cars coming down the road. got to drive my big brothers `62 Corvair when I was 10. My 1st car would have been a `65 Corvair Monza 140, 4 speed, convertible. I had my paper route money burning hole in my pocket. It needed alittle work and for $125 it could have been mine. But at 14 DAD said $100 tops and the guy wouldn't budge. So then Dad bought a `67 Barracuda 6 cyl. at, ac, ps, that if I would keep clean he would sell to me when I got my license, but my older sister said she wanted. Then whan I had a few months to go to get my license I bought a `67 Barracuda for $400. It was a 273 2 barrel, at, bucket seats and a black vinyl top. It had been run thru a fence and had 4 bald tires. Luckily my Uncle owned a body shop and my Big Brother and I would go and get it ready to paint. After a few days I got a job and was not able to go to the body shop to help. I told my uncle I wanted the car Mid Night Blue, he said it would be what ever color he felt like painting it. For a week I didn't know what color it was. Then Dad and Brother brought it home. MIDNIGHT BLUE. Already had aluminum slots, big tires & air shocks. In a few days I had cool car and still no license. About 2 weeks later I got my drivers license. ------------------ |

I was in the Corvette Club at the age of 15 1/2 and my Dad let me use a 64 Vette. We had a Cadillac Dealership in Indy so I really never had a car that I could call my own. RR, tons of Vettes, Boss429 , Boss302, Yenko Novas and all sorts of Muscle cars. YES A SPOILED BRAT, ALSO. |

First car was a 55 Chevy 2dr hdtp...red and white...had been saving my money for a long time, wanted a new 67 Fairlane GTA 427 ....came home from school one day and my parents were beaming, they had taken a good portion of my savings($600) and purchased a 55 Chevy for me....I was not happy at all....but I had to make the best of it...this car looked like new and had a 283/301 with a three speed and overdrive...IT WOULD RUN....I soon found out ALL my buddies liked the 55 and it would out run just about anything it came up against....with overdrive it would run 70 in 1st and 105 in 2nd.....kept it about 6 mos and ordered a new 68 GTO conv., dark green/blk 4spd and never looked at the 55 again...my dad kept it for many years....he sold it to a guy that destroyed it and it went to the auto crusher in the early 70's...the GTO lasted me 10 months and it was ready for the crusher also(5 sets of tires in 18,000 miles)...the next owner was nearly killed in it, tore the car in half after hitting a bridge underpass at high speed.....traded the GTO in on a 69 Chevelle SS 396/375hp conv.....the car was a triple black 4 spd....It out ran everybody that had beaten my first 2 cars...it was fast...wrecked it a few times, 2 engines, 2 transmissions, countless tires, I left it behind when I went in the USAF....it was 18 mos old and had 70,000 HARD miles....while in the military a friend wrote me he had found the Chevelle in a stack of cars in a junkyard...this was 1972...never found out how it ended up there....more stories, but I have bored you all enough now...Y2K YELO X 3 |

I guess I was always a rag top kinda guy. How about a 1970 LeMans Sport Convertible. Red with beige vinyl buckets, could always get 2nd gear, but the worst was 4 tickets for letting girlfriends sit up on top of the rear seat with the top down.. it seemed to pay off! Paul |

I built my first car from a 1961 VW bug. A Meyers Manx dune buggy. A terrific learning experience. It was bright orange and had chrome Brute headers. |

My first car was a 1951 Plymouth Cambridge given to me by my grandfather. The car is fully restored now and sitting in my garage. I could never convince myself to sell it. |

Mine was a 1964 midnite blue Pontiac GTO convertible, white top with a 389 engine and auto tranny. I also got my first ticket about two weeks later for drag racing, exhibition of speed and evasion of arrest. I was literally hell on wheels! Glad I got that out my system when I was younger! ------------------ |
