Back in June I bought a set of gears from Prowlerpro (the last set he had at the time)and have been waiting until Dean recieved all of the nitrous parts to install both at the same time. I finally decided to go ahead and have the gears done and take the car back when he's ready to install the nitrous. Left Denver for Grand Junction at 6:00am yesterday (250 miles) and met Dean and Dan at10:00. It took about 3 hours (would have been 1-2) but we talked and took pix so it took a little longer (sorry not a digital camera). It is a relatively simple procedure with a lift and the right tools, but I think could still be done by most anyone in the garage in a day. On the first test drive I couldn't get the smile off my face after hearing the tires "chirp" when I shifted into second. The gears aren't a cure all but they definitely make the car alot more fun to drive at all speeds. Here are some #s before and after. The rpm's may be a little off as I was driving and writing at the same time. Gear speed factory Prowlerpro |

Marc, I'm glad to hear that there is a noticable difference with the new gears. I have a set on order and am hoping to get them next month. I'm anxious to try them on my nitrous car. My nitrous car with stock gears tends to labor when the car hits forth gear until the RPM's build back up. I'm sure that the gears will make a big difference and be way easier on the engine when using larger shots of nitrous. Thanks for the detailed info. How about getting a stopwatch and posting the 0-60 time? ------------------ |

Mike, The car really does seem to get into the tourque curve alot quicker. First gear tops out alot faster, I must have hit the rev limiter 4-5 times driving home. It will take a little bit of getting used to shifting sooner. I think with nitrous runs I'll be using the auto until I get used to the shift points again. I'll get a stop watch and try the 0-60 runs but considering our altitude and I didn't run any times b4 the gears no telling what the results will be. All I can say is this thing is alot more fun to drive and it would be one of the 1st mods I'd make if I ever buy another. Although the gears are a little pricey it is definitely worth the money and has to be one of the safest mods you can do. It's kinda weird but I noticed a different (better) sound immediately from my Borla exhaust. Will continue to post my impressions and comments. When you see the gears I think you'll have the same impression I did, they are really nice looking and much heavier than the factory set. |

Marc, do you know if the gears truncate the DC warranty? Can you squeel the tires at will off the line? |

They probably would void the warranty IF they could prove the gears caused whatever damage was done and if they even noticed them, which I doubt. Just tried a powerbrake start in the neiborhood and the tires started spinning. I let off real quick so I don't get asked to move but will take the car out tomorrow and see what it can do. MRCAT2U |

Got a call from Ed at Real Rods to see how I liked the gears. Seems he may be including them in his catalogue in the future. I think they are worth the money and really make the car more fun to drive. We have a Prowler/Viper cruise this weekend and will get some other impressions and post them. |

Ed, if you're gears are high quality and fairly priced - I'll buy it. When will you have them? |

Enthusiast, The gears Ed is considering carrying are the ProwlerPro gears. My understanding is the price will be the same. |

The Colorado group got together Saturday for a cruise in the mountains thanks to Andrew and Bridget. We had 10 Colorado Prowlers and 1 Californian Gary C on his way back from Woodward. Gary and I did some side by side runs from about 30 mph on to see the difference with the gears. Each time I could pull away from him but his reactions were a little slow a couple of times (what do you expect? The guy had been on the road for almost a month and is recovering from the ambushes he endured from Carol and CJ). Gary went for a ride in my car to feel the difference in the gears and I will leave it up to him to post his impressions. Next up nitrous. MRCAT2U |

The car ran like it was at sea level. We were at almost 6000 feet. There is a little gear noise but I like it. My next Prowler will have then, if I go on a long trip(1000 miles plus) I will swap them out. I was really surprised. Buy the gears, don't let Mark buy you lunch.

Gary, You should have had the lobster!!! Actually it was the water. Gary pulled over for a quick stop on our run and I saw him drinking some Rocky Mountain spring water out of the creek. Or maybe he was just kissing the ground,(not used to being at this altitude). Sorry to here it Gary, hope you are feeling better. If you ever come thru or near again let me know and we'll find some lobster or oatmeal if you're not up for the lobster and put a few miles on. |
