Comments wanted! How about a charity/ raffle for a new Burnt Orange Prowler - $39.00 a ticket ( limit four ) - with the proceeds going to a fine national children's charity organization? I have many of the details worked out, but need to know your opinions and thoughts on this before going any further. Odds would be APPOX. 1 / 1,500 - much better than a lottery, and a children's charity to benefit! Raffle would run from mid to late September until April 16, 2001` - IRS Tax Day/ Win a Prowler. Open to registered Prowler owners only, unless, 1285 tickets are not sold by March 1, 2001. Then we can open ticket sales to registered PT Cruiser owners for 40 days! I believe we could sell enough tickets to Prowler owners only, but need a relief valve. Positive and negative comments are welcome. What better way could you spend $39.00?

What charity?

Would they be selling the tickets or you?

Would the tickets be tax deductible?

At $39 a ticket, if you sold all 1500, that would be only $58,500.00. Assuming you could get the new Prowler at sticker (~$45K) that would leave only $13,500.00 for the charity. Not alot.

Would there be other fees that would diminish that $13,500.00 even more? (raffle fees, etc.)?

Thanks,

Trey

Thanks for your comments so far! I will try to answer your questions in order: 1. Four ticket limit per registered owner, registered on the Prowleronline.com Registry. I would assume if you buy more than one ticket, that the others would be for your spouse, child, grand-child, etc. You would assign the numbered tickets to whomever you want in your family, at your residence. 2. I suggested to Mike K. that we seek a D/C dealership who would sell us a Prowler for $1,000 over invoice (dealer also retains the 2-3% under invoice), and give the dealership a advertising spot on our homepage. This ad spot would highlight the raffle itself, and would run free until April 16, 2001. 3. My thought on the charity- St. Judes Children's Hospital - Target House. This is the charity that Target/Ganassi Racing donates to with their Indy car program. I believe Ganassi Racing gives $5 or $10 grand to the charity, IF they win a race. That isn't happening too often this year in CART. If we could raise $10,000 over costs of car and small misc. costs, that would be a decent donation. Who knows how many tickets we can sell? How many Prowler owners out there X four? That is dreaming, but 1,500 to 2,000 tickets is realistic! 4. Tax deductable? I don't know, but we can find out. 5. Reward: Giving to a children's charity (great PR for POA). Someone will own a new Prowler. Must be registered at Prowleronline.com Registry - awareness and promotion of the website we enjoy and use freely. 6. Yes, we could raise tickets to $50. My first thought, but I know many of you are SAVING $39.00 per year now!!! 7. Haven't thought out all possible problems, that is why I'm putting this feeler post out to you owners. 8. Gary C. - don't know what you are talking about = tattoo? 9. Might have missed a question or two, but will followup asap. Will decide from your posts if this will fly or not. Please post your additional comments. Thanks, Larry Salzman, Az-POA

Personally I would buy four tickets. But I think that the tickets should be limited to four tickets per household. I wouldn't want someone to stack the deck in their favor by buying thousands of them. I also think that the dealer offering the car should be allowed to raffle the tickets to anyone. This might give a none owning person a chance to join us in our fun and love for the car. I also think you will have a better chance of selling the tickets that way.

"Four ticket limit per registered owner, registered on the Prowleronline.com Registry."

What about those that own multiple cars? Do they get 4 chances per car? If they can only buy 4 tickets no matter how many cars they have, you will not generate enough money to even pay for a Prowler.

Roughly 200 "Registered" times 4 tickets times $39.00 will only be $31,200. 200 "Registered" times 4 is only 800 tickets sold, but you need to sell 1,285?

Just wondering why I wouldn't be able to participate just because I haven't registered?

Additional questions: Trey wants to know which charity and who will sell the tickets. We are open to suggestions about which charity to donate to, but I believe it should be a children's charity organization. I gave my thoughts in a previous post. I think it would be asking Mike and Judy Krehel, providers of this website, too much to handle the ticket selling bookwork. I would think that most of us would feel comfortable if a Lady Prowler were handling the bank deposits? CJ and Carol have worked their butts off with Woodward event, and need a rest. There is another Lady Prowler in the Phx. area, who might volunteer for this position? Here again, open to suggestions. A interest bearing account could be opened for the check deposits, with two or three signatures required to release the funds--sound fair? Close raffle on April 10, 2001-FedEx tickets, insured, overnite to Mike and Judy's home. On April 16, 2001-have Judy Krehel draw out the one winning ticket, and post the number on the website that night. Have Chris Krehel, our fine webmaster, present the proceeds check to the selected charity. Someone asked me about taxes. Winning ticket holder would be responsible for the delivery of car and any / all federal, state, and local taxes on the car. Raffle costs: stamps, cost of duplicate numbered tickets, and FedEx delivery to the Krehel home in Texas. Andrew: I would be willing to compromise on your issue of letting the DC dealership sell tickets to anyone. Let the dealership employees be able to purchase tickets. I work in the grocery industry, with lots of games and contests, but they are NEVER open to the employees. Alright people, you must have other questions or comments? Anymore people interested in pushing this idea forward?

Tom Kalski: I find your last post interesting. First you ask about multiple Prowler owners being able to buy MORE tickets. We need to have guidelines in place, to prevent overstacking of the odds. Four ticket limit is fair to all! Next, you question the motive of having to be a registered owner on the ProwlerOnline.com Reigistry, to buy tickets. Tom, in three minutes on the web I found out this: you are a purchasing agaent from Westlake, Ohio with a purple Prowler and a nice dog, whose -name I'll withhold. Your home phone # 440-871-226X. I find this to be more information than we ask you to provide on the Registry, except for your Vin#, which you can change a number or two if you want. I applaud you Tom, for the time and hard work that you put in as a officer and VP of the PPC, but welcome you to also be involved with the POA. One of the three goals in this proposal, is to promote the Prowler Owners Association on ProwlerOnline.com. Concerning the total ticket sales you are questioning: In my first post I mentioned a relief valve for ticket sales, If needed. The PT Cruiser Club could be the final chapter to reaching our goals, but I believe we can make it on our own. I talked to four PTCruizer owners this past saturday night at a car show. Two of them told me they wanted a Prowler FIRST, but couldn't reach the Prowler sale costs. I understand that, and feel we could count on as many as 1,000 extra ticket sales, if needed, from the 180,000 PT owners who will be out on the streets soon. What are your thoughts on this? I'm glad you read and post on this website also. Your views and opinions are appreciated. Larry

Not being one to poo-poo the idea, you might want to check with state/local officials on doing this.

While a great idea, it is a form of gambling and I would hate to see problems about bookkeeping, taxes, licenses, etc. come back to haunt POA or Mike.

There are whole different sets of taxes if someone wins a car, charity or not.

Best case would be to pitch the idea to some charity, let them run it, and have Mike post the effort and outcome on POA. POA could even sell tickets for them but, it would be there raffle not POA's.

What about us FPO's?! (future Prowler owners)

You guys that already have one (or more!) are the only folks allowed to win one?! Geez. Talk about kicking a guy while he's down...
