For all you lucky dudes and dudettes cat-a-vanning to Detroit in August, I have a recommendation. At least some of you ought to have a caravan must-have, i. e., several family radio service(called FRS) band walkie talkie-type radios. I own 2 Motorolas that have 13 primary and over 30 secondary channels with a nominal range of about 1.5 miles on the open road. What a difference it makes when several people on the road can instantly relay "need to stop" messages or map directions from the lead to the following cars. They break the boredom and add security and safety to the group. You don't need Motorolas (sold nearly anywhere) but the better FR-band radios beat the truckers chatter on CB's. With the multiple frequencies these units have, you can remain pretty secure with just your group able to listen in. Radio Shack, Best Buy, Circuit City, etc. all carry some brand of this FR band radio. And, buy rechargeable batteries and a portable charger if you're spending a few days out. These use batteries in about 6-8 hours. |

They make a windshield mount for the antenna. I am going to a friend of the Lords and having a CB installed with a 30 watt booster on Tuesday. ------------------ [This message has been edited by Gary C (edited 07-28-2000).] |

I think my wife is making a cloth bag to put my CB in and will have on bulkhead between seats. Will hook over like the gadget bag DC makes for Prowler. Really don't want windshield mounted antenna, might go with in line for stock radio or make mount to attach to trailer hitch on car. |
