Subject: 2000 Prowler vs. 99 Prowler vs. PT Cruiser

Hopefully this won't come across as boastful or bragging but I have been
asked by some people how they compare.

I am Jim Hergert an engineer who happens to be very lucky and own several
cars and airplanes and love my Prowlers. I have had a 99 Yellow with Trailer
for 1 yr. 7 months and just got a 2001 PT Limited and a new 2000 Yellow
Prowler.

There are three things about the 2000 that are very impressive besides the
computer in the mirror and the chrome wheels and shift bezel. One, the
suspension is softer but I would say that it is Less Harsh, and that means
that on our very rough streets in California it is very noticeable how much
more comfortable the ride is. The harshness difference can be described as
the difference between having high tire pressure vs. very low tire pressure
on the 99. I haven't had the CD skip yet in the new one. I can't notice any
difference in the handling, about the same differences as between new and old
tires, although in hard corners it moves around more when it is bumpy.
Second, the exhaust is very different in that it is louder, without any
resonance, and more important the sound is more powerful and does Not sound
like a Mercury Outboard, like the 99 does below 3500 RPM. I love the new
sound. Thirdly, the engine is more responsive at throttle tip-in and at part
throttle it feels like it has much more HP. I'm sure they remapped the
computer and this also shows up with part throttle downshifts which seam to
happen sooner and smoother. I don't think the top HP is any different, it
doesn't feel any faster but is nicer to drive moderate. I never thought that
anything was wrong with my 99 and still don't but I would like to know if
anyone knows about the CPU mapping update and if we can update the 99's
computer?

The PT Cruiser is a very nice car and gets about half the thumbs up that the
Prowler gets but the most impressive thing is the Quality of fit and finish.
I think the interior fits as good as my Lexus and the outside panel fit and
paint are as good also. Mine was built on the 9 th of May, just after they
shut down the production line for one week. Not sure what they did that week,
but for an American car built in Mexico I couldn't be more impressed. The
Prowler body fit is poor, I spent 2 hours adjusting the front end panels and
another 1.5 hours on the rear trunk. Now it's better but not in the league of
the PT. Of course I know the PT is tooled up for mass production and the
Prowler is just a miracle that any company would build it, even in low
volume.

So thank you DC for bringing these great fun cars to market, they have been a
joy in my life. BTW, I have a standing order for the Charger, new Viper, and
any other Fun cars you produce, versteh?
Proud to be here, JIM
